Although this mosque is lower on most lists of top places to see in Bandar than the iconic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque located downtown, to me this mosque is not only the highlight of all the beautiful sights to see in Bandar, but it is one of the finest works of architecture and design I have ever seen. Jame' Asr Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque (Malay: Masjid Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah) is a mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei. It is one of the two national mosques, the other being Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

History

Jame' 'Asr Hassanal Bolkiah is a waqf of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, the 29th and current Sultan of Brunei. The construction began in 1988 on a 20-acre site in Kiarong. The mosque was inaugurated on 14 July 1994 with the Sultan attending the Maghrib and Isha prayers in conjunction with His Majesty's 48th birthday celebration.
