Although this mosque is lower on most lists of top places to see in Bandar than the iconic Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque located downtown, to me this mosque is not only the highlight of all the beautiful sights to see in Bandar, but it is one of the finest works of architecture and design I have ever seen. Although non-muslims are not allowed to enter the prayer rooms (this is very common and understandable), non-muslims can freely tour throughout the mosque during hours where it is open to the public. It is truly one of the most regal, decadent, and beautiful buildings in all of South East Asia in my opinion! For a real treat, explore it quickly within a little while before it closes - the mosque is mostly empty, and you'll be able to explore all of its beauty without distraction.

Stunning! I went at night to take photographs from the outside. I timed it with the adhan (the call given to announce that it is time for a particular obligatory prayer), so beautiful. I went back the next day when it was open. Dress modestly. They will give you a robe to wear. Remove footwear and walk inside. Stunning. Islamic architecture. Beautiful. This is the largest mosque in Brunei. Very clean. Inaugurated in 1994, the mosque is named after the current Sultan of Brunei. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. I struggled with reception on my phone so they connected me to WiFi to help me get a Dart ride back to my hotel. A must when in Brunei.
