The access to the day-use areas is closed in winter time, but you can still hike up to the upper day-use area, which is 1 km from the gate. The Barrier Lake Trail is 1 km and isn't that bad of a hike, with breathtaking views of the area. This is a perfect place to take the family for a picnic and a hike on a nice winter day. Don't forget to bring a snow shovel to clean the picnic table off. Note that you're not supposed to park at the gate, so if you choose to park there, do it at...

This is a nice quick trail and has a bit of an incline which should be manageable for most including children. You drive most of the way up and get a great view with relatively little effort. The trail has some narrow switchbacks as well as signs to explain the history of Barrier dam and the...

We visited on 10/05, 2024. It’s an easy 10 minute hike with a pretty satisfying view of Barrier Lake. The actual trail heads uphill and east (away from the lake). You start at the sign. Autumn is definitely the best time to go - the golden leaves, the emerald water, the crisp...
