The access to the day-use areas is closed in winter time, but you can still hike up to the upper day-use area, which is 1 km from the gate. The Barrier Lake Trail is 1 km and isn't that bad of a hike, with breathtaking views of the area. This is a perfect place to take the family for a picnic and a hike on a nice winter day.
