Have you seen the latest Ghost Buster movie? Well if you have you may recognize some of the building’s interiors. Some of the scenes were shot here. Apart from that, we did the full tour here and the history of the plant is fascinating. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave interesting information on how the gas plant was founded, how it became successful, the people it employed and a run down of how it all worked. If you appreciate recent history then this is a great site to do a tour. While you are there I recommend visiting the stores and Eau Claire’s Distillery. Surrounding towns of interest are Okotoks, Black Diamond, and my fav.. Longview. Twin Cities Saloon has great burgers and the hotel is rated one if the most haunted hotels in Canada. I stayed overnight in winter when there was no one else staying and I found out later about the haunted part and if I’d known I wouldn’t have had the guts to do it. Funny thing is.. when I was in the bathroom I really sensed someone was there. Next morning I went to the local coffee shop in town and the lady told me that it was haunted and I told her about my experience. This summer I took one of my sons for the burger and next to the pool table is a poster with an explanation of its hauntedness. I’m so glad I stayed there first and found out later. It has a lot of history that you can search on google. In Longview is also my favourite all time restaurant, Longview Steakhouse. A family run restaurant with a nice view as the name suggests. This restaurant is extremely popular and I had to book in February to get a reservation for July. The owners are so passionate and knowledgeable about their dishes. I absolutely love it and to say it’s my favourite all time restaurant is...
Read moreThis gasplant was once a very important place. If not for this place, I belive we would all be speaking German today. This facility supplied all of the aviation fuel for the allied forces during the second world War. Its kind of a weird feeling to walk around in the plant site. Just imagine how it was when it was in operation. How things used to be done. Its a lot to think about. If you are proud of our history and the accomplishments are forefathers achieved I would highly recommend coming for a tour. Just bear in mind that this place was in operation before we were aware of our inviromental impact. Those who are overly sensitive might want to ignore all of the bits of metal and concrete that are washing out of the river bank downstream from the plant, after all, where else would they have disposed of all that contaminated equipment other than to bury it right along side of the river. It would have been far to expensive to have found somewhere away from the only source of drinking water ...
Read moreI really enjoyed my tour. The guide was well informed and took the time to get to everyone’s questions. If you live near or around the plant, it’s worth going on the tour. Everyone from Calgary looking for a fun day trip... this is it. Lost a star due to the visitor Center not having much in the way of artifacts. Most of the buildings are shuttered up so it would have been interesting to have more of the stuff they used in the plants on display. HINT: see the original spot where the oil rig at heritage park used to stand (or a reproduction of it is...
