My iPhone camera may not do it justice, but this Tidal Wave is one of only 2 in the world - and occurs only twice a day! Considered one of the greatest natural spectacles in British Columbia (on the Sunshine Coast) it was a very powerful sight to witness. 📍Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park, located in Egmont, BC "Twice daily, nature puts on a show as the tide changes and the flow of saltwater switches, reversing the direction and power of the incredibly turbulent Sechelt Rapids. The difference in water levels between one side of the rapids and the other sometimes exceeds 9 ft in height, with 200 billion gallons of water flowing through the Skookumchuck Narrows connecting Sechelt and Jervis Inlets. The Sechelt Rapids are famous for their spectacular whirlpools and, for their attraction to extreme kayakers and divers. “Skook”, as it is affectionately named, is one of the great whitewater wonders of the world, attracting thrill-seekers from across the globe." Would you hike to see this wave?? Heading to the Sunshine Coast in BC? Save this for your itinerary!! The trailhead is located only 4 minutes away from our cozy cabin here at @backeddyresort and the entire hike takes about 2 hours round trip.

Beautiful walk, absolutely stunning at the rapids. 100% NOT stroller/wagon friendly and there are no signs saying that it’s not stroller friendly. Our baby couldn’t even ride in the stroller it was to bumpy. If your bringing younger kids this walk could take you an hour and a half to two hours and you will most likely have to carry your kids along the way. So plan your timing well. We brought our stroller not knowing it was so rough most of the way. Our kids couldn’t even ride in the stroller so we had to carry them and drag the stroller over the rough areas. There was also another family that brought their stroller and had just as much struggle with it as us. It’s about 1.5-2km walk from where you have to park to get to the trail head. Still highly recommend doing and seeing the rapids! There’s two places to go watch the rapids, the look out which is farther away from then and then you can go right next to them and watch closer up. Highly recommend going closer up to watch them. The trail to get closer is very bumpy, hilly and rough with roots but work the trek.

Gorgeous trail to the narrows. It’s mostly flat with a few declines and inclines. Takes about an hour each way, starting from the parking. Well established, nicely carved, seasoned trail which is slightly busy even on a rainy day. Trail can be uneven and root-y for about 50% of the time so people with strollers may have a hard time. Peaceful views of Brown Lake on the way to the narrows you can’t miss! Do not forget to look up the Tide Timetable to catch the tide at the best time.

Gorgeous hike for a rainy day, but recommend carrying an umbrella for extra cover during the hike since the forest canopy doesn’t cover you from the rains much. It rained mid-heavily on the way back and we...

If you want a taste of Nature's wonders, head on out to the Skookumchuk Narrows on the Sunshine Coast, BC. Stunning play of water in this phenomena! I've been there twice now and cannot have enough of it! The added charm to viewing this is the 4km ( about an hour) hike to get there. With my walking challenges, even I managed to do it with the help of walking poles. Well developed trail and stunning vegetation all around- you can hear the trees whisper! Loads of Kodak moments along the way. I couldn't take my eyes off the natural beauty of the trail....
