Being from California we see a lot of beaches - this was nice. Waves were small and cliffs were low. There was a lot of damage from the hurricane Fiona on the whole island and this area was not spared. The only loss of a star was that it was understandably in disrepair even a year later. I'm sure with all the damage - this wasn't a priority. Some people ignored the closed off path - the sandstone is what geologists call "poorly consolidated". We have similar sandstone that is 4 or 5 times higher - but this was high enough there is some danger. The signs are there for a reason. Up the coast from where we were is a new "sea stack" which had formed as a result of a piece of land of about 1/8 of an acre falling away from the shore. Recently there had been deaths and spinal injuries - look but don't walk except the dune trail. These are fragile ecosystems - so stay on trails.

We spent the day. The water was absolutely beautiful - 23 degrees. Very sandy in the middle section. No need for water shoes. The only thing that I don't understand is why, as a tax paying Canadian citizen, do I have to pay $17 to go to a beach? Well apparently it's Government run/operated and they need the money.

Beautiful rocky red sandstone going into the sea. A bit of a walk from the main beach but it's worth it. You can access it from the east lookout and parking lot, but you can't officially walk down from there since the walkway is fenced all around.

I am not sure why this beach has such a high rating.perhaps it is that more families come here to enjoy. If you are an older couple and are looking for a quiet relaxing beach, this is not it. Overcrowded, and nothing different from any tourist beach. Thunder cove Beach is far superior to just chill and enjoy the rock formations. So there is more to see there than cavandish, unless you are looking to be surrounded by lots of people.

There is minimal scenery here that makes it a photographic spot.

The part that I just do not get is the over $16.75 (for two) charge just to get in and see the beach, which is all we wanted to do. This was a stop-by because we’ve heard good things about it. but I just don’t see how this place charges and a better more scenic beach is free. Something just doesn’t make sense.

Would I recommend this beach? Again if you are going with a family, are a younger group, or don’t mind the crowds then sure. Sand is basic tan colour,, the water was shallow when we were here. It’ was a pretty windy day here.

But I would suggest going to any number of free beaches over this if you are more into scenery than just going to a basic beach.

In conclusion

It’s not horrible, as a beach, there re change rooms, washrooms, and a boardwalk to take a stroll for a while.

It’s not the worse but definitely nowhere near the best.

It’s just another...
