The Esquimalt Lagoon is a coastal treasure in Colwood, BC, offering a peaceful and scenic retreat. Its mirror-like waters beautifully reflect the surrounding mountains, sky, and lush greenery, creating an idyllic setting for nature lovers. With the Juan de Fuca Strait stretching out towards the Olympic Mountains, the views are breathtaking, especially during sunrise and sunset when the sky is painted in soft, warm hues. The sandy spit that borders the lagoon provides a perfect place for relaxing walks, with driftwood scattered along the shore and a peaceful ambiance.
Accessible 24 hours a day, the lagoon is a superb location for early-morning birdwatching or a leisurely evening walk. As a migratory bird sanctuary, it hosts a diverse array of birdlife, from majestic great blue herons and eagles to graceful swans and ducks, as well as seasonal visitors like sandpipers and kingfishers. Wildlife enthusiasts may also catch a glimpse of otters, seals, and occasionally deer. For the best views, a walk along the sand spit offers sweeping vistas of the lagoon and the ocean, while Ocean Boulevard provides continuous scenic views with convenient parking areas.
Public washrooms are available near the lagoon's southern end, ensuring visitors' comfort. Whether you're there to enjoy the wildlife, admire the natural beauty, or take in the serene atmosphere, the Esquimalt Lagoon is a must-visit destination on...

Even the bigger ships 🚢 look small out on the water. The other side is a lagoon with some wildlife using it as a source. We have seen fish and a couple of herons waiting to gobble them up. Parking can get tricky depending on what day and what time of day you arrive. Have seen plenty of people make the trek on bikes, too, so be mindful and...
Read moreThe Lagoon is one of my favourite parts of living in Langford. I LOVE coming here on a warm-ish day and hanging out in the back of my vehicle while I watch the ocean. I spend entire days here working, and usually stay until the sun sets. There's some gorgeous sunset views, and with Baker in the distance, you get some nice scenery! Depending on which side of the Lagoon you go on (Lagoon side vs ocean side), you get a totally different feel and view.
I've also used the portapotties in the middle (ew, don't recommend usually), and also the bathroom at the far south end and those were...
