I definitely would not recommend this B&B as a wedding venue that’s for sure. With no washroom facilities for your guests they are left to file through the Honeymoon suite all night! Their rubber outdoor flooring and unfinished wood pillars snagged my dress many times throughout the night as well!! Not sure where I should start, I guess with the email from the owner, Dieter stating that “if the people who end up booking the 28th are Asian then your dog will not be able to be outside even with a leash" Then him asking my mom to roll up the carpet in her suite so that he “wouldn’t have to pick dog hairs out of the carpet with tweezers” followed by him freaking out on my mom and accusing her of looking in his private residence (adjacent with sunroom which is open to guests) saying “can’t you read the sign!? It says private!” (when my mom was shielding her eyes to the sun looking for me). Let’s not forget the marijuana plants growing in his outdoor greenhouse that my guests so kindly pointed out to me. Oh and the room in his house (not advertised on the site as I thought I had rented out all the rooms on the property) that he just HAD to rent out on the night of my wedding and this guest that just HAD to use the dock at 7PM on the night of my wedding. To top if off while packing up the owner’s wife tells me that apparently I didn’t book one of the room’s for 2 adults & 2 children and the kids were an additional $35.00/ night each! So I ended up having to pay $70.00 for 2 children under the age of 5 to stay with their parents in the suite! It’s too bad as the location is beautiful! Oh and breakfast was yogurt, fruit, granola bar, juice box and muffin :( Typical response I would expect from someone being very defensive. No mention and no acknowledgement of the marijuana plants on his property at a wedding ceremony. And apparently wedding's have time limit according to him it should only be 90 Min. There is no mention of any timeframe on the website. Also I didn't even mention anything in my review about the charge for the dog who by the way only stayed there one night yet I paid for two. If it was such a big deal don't you think I would have came to you and asked you for a refund for the one night!? And for you to say that I booked the room for only two people I didn't even book The Room! It was Tobi. So maybe you should get your facts straight before you open your mouth. I should add that this sweet that were discussing is called a family Suite yet only two people can stay there for the advertised rate? That's not a family that's a couple. I feel sorry for your wife having to do all your cooking and cleaning and...

Read moreHeretofore my benchmark for 5-star gracious and comfortable hotel/motel accommodations was the Chelsea Hampton in Midtown Manhattan, NYC, acquired by Hilton since I last stayed there. No longer; now my benchmark is the B&B, Birds of a Feather in Colwood, B.C., Canada. Colwood is a suburb of Victoria, the crown jewel city of western North America. Birds is located on the western shore of Esquimalt Lagoon; a migratory bird sanctuary 2 km long by ¾ km wide, which exchanges tidal water with the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I stayed 4 days, not actually a vacation, but a nostalgia mission; to disperse my wife’s ashes in the Salish Sea, a place we loved while years spent cruising the waters of coastal B.C. I actually wanted to do the dispersal in Haro Strait or Desolation Sound but neither of those sites is available to a sea kayaker on a tight schedule, even an experienced one, so the lagoon was my next best alternative. The B&B has a 28 ft boat kept at Sidney, and they offer a number of seaborne adventures, including an ashes experience. Mine had to be private, so, I put one of the B&B’s sea kayaks in the lagoon – the B&B has a private dock - and paddled to about its center where I said goodbye to my wife.
Operated as a B&B since 1997, the owners razed the structure to the foundation in 2006 and rebuilt it as a dedicated B&B. It has 4 private suites, three up and one on the main level. The three up are suitable for families while the downstairs unit where I stayed is more suitable for a sole traveler or an intimate couple. My room had a comfortable queen bed, large desk and chain, flat screen TV, microwave, small refrigerator and plenty of storage space. The bath was small but very functional, with a walk-in shower large enough for two. The furnishings are top quality, elegant and tasteful, and there is ample space on the multi-level patios outside for relaxing. Kayaks and bicycles are available for the physically ambitious, but if you just want to kick back, that is an option. The hosts are warm and gracious and will provide as much or as little help as you desire. Privacy gets a very high mark as does relaxed and gracious living. I’m going back next year, for a longer stay. You will not be disappointed if you decide to visit, but plan ahead; you’ll have lots of competition...
