I used to come here on one of my runs while living in Coquitlam. I used to fish for trout and carp here. I missed the nature and the peacefulness of this place. It was nice to see people enjoying picnic's and each others company with various birds chirping and singing. Now, a one way only trail around the lake due to prevention of Sars-covid-19, it was a stimulating walk passing by ducks and their ducklings, geese and their goslings walking around enjoying time with their families too. People were fishing at the docks maintaining physical distancing rules. I saw a couple men sailing their remote controlled sail boats and people floating around on canoes.
One thing I noticed that was concerning was the lack of physical distancing between strangers and their kids at the parks. Most parks say that they will not be sanitizing the kids parks but I did not look for one so it might exist. This should not stop users of the park from being diligent. We are amidst a pandemic and unless you get your news and advice from an epidemilogist, taking precautions like disinfectant spray on touched surfaces and using hand sanitization on adults and educating their children handwashing s important in preventing spread to others and loves ones.
The city should provide some sort of hand sanitizing for patrons of the park their tax dollars pay for so they can maintain their mental and social health. It's sad when it takes someone we care about to be hurt or die before we realize how delicate our...
Read moreThis park has been around for a very long time. I have been coming here for over 30 years, my parents brought me here since I was a baby! Great time here in spring and summer as the wild life is very busy! You have your ducks and Canadian Geese here, along with your fish too. Over the years they have revamped the park and keep making it better. Of course you cannot go wrong with just walking around the lake or going for a hard run as well. You are also allowed to fish here too! They just recently completed the new parking lot which was gravel before and now easier on the cars to get out! Overall this is a child hood memory for me and great place to come by yourself and enjoy nature or go for that run and a great place for the family to bring the little ones and play games as well. Also, dogs are...
Read moreLovely to walk around the lake; it's small enough not to seem daunting for those who are less mobile or fit, yet big enough to stay interesting, especially if you are a birder or nature lover. A fair bit if space has been allocated to naturalization, for birds and wetland species. The frogs can be pleasantly loud! There is at least one osprey that frequents the lake, which is stocked with rainbow trout in spring and fall.
There is a fenced-in playground on the east side of the lake (along Gatensbury St.), which is great if you have kids, but can be quite noisy when busy. So, if it's solitude & nature you're after, go when little ones are less likely to be there.
Watch out for goose poop if you venture onto any of the spacious lawns and PLEASE DON'T...
