It’s huge. Like, this tramples pretty much every other rec center (at least for me). Just more of everything. More rinks, more pool, more fitness equipment, more stuff to do. I did go in the Victoria Day weekend, and it was crowded!
First, the locker room situation is kinda abysmal…? I don’t know how a locker room can be this small for the amount of people this place is supposed to serve? I am taking this from experience from the UofA gym where there are hundreds of lockers and that gym is like 60 percent the size of this one.
Don’t know if the AC was just working overtime that day or I got residual humidity from the locker room, but holy crap, it was hot. I didn’t even start my workout yet, but I felt the humidity in the air.
Second, the gym is fine. I wasn’t able to do a full assessment, but here are my scores.
Legs: A. It has a squat rack and that’s all you need, really. 5 squat racks. I saw a hack squat. And every gym is gonna have a leg press, leg extension, and seated leg curl.
Chest. A+. Many chest machines, benches, and dumbbells at your disposal. I would appreciate more chest fly machines though.
Back: B. There are… enough pull-up bars. But a lot of pull-up bars are with the squat racks or the cables, so that is off the table during peak hours. Every gym has a lat pulldown, so yeah. The machine section is kinda lacking. There is a T-bar row, cable rows (obviously), underhand lat pulldown, high row, and an iso-lateral row. But there is only ONE of each. At least give us another iso-lateral row, the goated back machine. Like, girl…
Arms: girl, what big box gym will not cater to the largest clientele: high school male teenagers. Of course it’s gonna be good for arms.
Hot men: There’s an okay selection of hot adult men to look at when I'm "resting and zoning out". That's all I have to say on that lol.
Low-key, I guess my final comment is: the lack of an Olympic lifting platform is really evident when Kinsmen, Commonwealth, Londonderry, and even GRAND TRUNK has one. (The latter is only because of my influence, or at least I would like to believe.) That’s really all I have to...
Read moreI don’t know if Terwillegar is a racist establishment or if only Brittany is. But I believe she must have been emboldened by her establishment’s covert policies.
I was at the pool side and asked a lifeguard if it was okay to dive in the deep middle pool and he said it was. So I dived and was front-crawling when Brittany stopped me in the middle of the water to say I can’t dive. I told her I asked a lifeguard and was told it was okay to. She then said that particular diving is not allowed for people who can’t swim. I was literally in the pool, swimming, before she stopped me and still in the pool throughout the entire conversation. I told her she doesn’t have to worry about that as I took swimming lessons in another facility and graduated and can indeed swim. She said I can’t do it except in class. So I asked what to do when I forget the skill and then I am in a situation when I needed it? Should I just drown because after spending my time and money to learn life-saving skills, I tucked it away because Brittany said so, now I am drowning and panicking and can’t save myself. Then she said it is not allowed for children. I asked why we were continuing to have this conversation when I am obviously not a child. So she said she will give me an exception because I am an adult. I started to wonder why I needed her to “allow” me when she didn’t even have to talk to me in the first place. I believe what Brittany wanted to say really is “how dare you be in the pool?” Mind you, I am the only dark skin person in the deep pools. This happened 3 days ago and I still can’t sleep, forever traumatized by Brittany and her minion, Sarah. It’s difficult enough being in the pool at Terwillegar and having it gradually be empty as you’re in, but contending with a uniformed person policing you, and covertly telling you “you don’t belong here” is terribly disgusting, a canon event I don’t...
Read moreSERIOUSLY this rec centre needs a big improvement on cleaning n maintenance. It was a very nice faciltiy but everything goes down these years. Parking always gives u headache because the design is ridiculous. My baby boy n I had a membership last year n we eventually cancelled it because its not worth the money we spent. There's always a waiting list to use the kid den n indoor playground in the mornings n afternoons (not sure abt evenings becuz we didn't go that period) because of class n limited space. It just wasted my time n money to sit n wait for an hr try to get in. Children indoor playground was always dusty n dirty. Staffs ignored if kids eat inside n you could always find food debris on the floor. Some parents even worn their shoes/ sandals /bare feet inside the playground. It's absolutely disgusting if you have an infant /toddler crawling on the floor. I also found the staffs in kid den were unprofessional. One time I picked up my son n found his outfit was wet n smell like urine. I checked the diaper was dry. staff explained he was crawling around(?) I believe he probably crawled inside the washroom with no supervision because the door always open. When i picked him up, my son was always placed in the playpen, (standing n peeking) or sitting in high chair (not eating) even there s only few kids in the room. Joined several toddler classes, some was good but some instructors were unprofessional: playing phone, repetitive activity every single class, every class at least 15 mins delay to start n 5 mins before finish . I wonder why there s no evaluation form we can fill in n submit online to comment. Swimming area is always crowded or closed for class session. Change room always dirty n hair everywhere. Some single men use the family change room, parents please keep eyes on ur kids because theres locked shower rooms for family use. Do not leave them without...
