A fantastic local attraction providing education about the local environment. Free entry, although donations appreciated. Designed for kids, there is still enough to make it worthwhile for adults to visit too.
The current art exhibit of origami animals is worth travelling to see alone. But, if you have the time, also make sure you visit the roof garden. It's a beautiful view of the high level trestle bridge with native plants and shade - I wish I'd brought a book with me to sit and enjoy the view and the peace and quiet for a time.
Free parking lot, and lots of nearby trails to go and see the plants and animals you've just learned about. Very friendly staff. A visit can last anywhere from 10 minutes onwards, depending on how much time you have and how long you want to spend in the roof garden! A relaxed viewing will probably take you no more than 30 minutes.

There was a movie one could watch; things for the kids to do; and they even had a living roof with a homemade game available. Not too far away was another building which used to be the coal mine. This building was so interesting with all it's information and with machinery from way back when it all started...
Read moreThe Helen Schuler Nature Centre what a great place. This place is great for kids to explore and learn new stuff about plants and animals. Don showed us around and took the time to talk about all the different type of activities was great. This place has very clean washroom facilities and fun facts on the walls. There are two water fountains and you can also refill your water flasks. I enjoyed checking out the art work that must of taking a lot of hours to create out of paper. Photos don't do it justice.
