It’s true that the salmon don’t swim up river all year long but you have really good odds of seeing some between June and August.
Watching out for them at the observation post makes it an even better experience. You are able to look for them underground in a room with large windows showing you the path they would take swimming against the current. You can also hide here from the elements; sun, heat, rain…
On this particular afternoon, we were lucky to see 5 of salmon come through within about 15 minutes. I guess we were there at the right time.
The window has an outline of a salmon with measurements on it to help you quickly identify how big of a salmon you’re seeing!
One of ours lined up perfectly with the outline like he had done this 100 times. Lol
