The original Grotto was built over a hundred years ago, and was site of an annual pilgrimage, until it was taken down for safety reasons. The current building is a re-creation, built by the local Knights of Columbus, who collected and measured pieces of the molding and doorway, and had new architetural drawings made. For a couple of decades, the annual pilgrimage was a huge event - groups coming by bus from all over the lower mainland and Washington state - lots of families, dozens of languages spoken and ethnic groups sharing food and faith.
