The so-called Kebec side ????Just how much rust can be inspected anyways? All of the Mercier bridge work should be given to the Mohawk people of whom many are proud professional iron workers. I've had the honour of working with some of them at Dominion Engineering. They've worked on projects all over North America. The only original section of the Mercier bridge (1932) standing, is the south bound portion from Lasalle Blvd. to the south side of the span over the river? The rest of the original bridge was rebuilt to accommodate the newly constructed ST. Lawrence Seaway and connected to the newly built Rte. 138 to Chateauguay and the eastern direction to Laprairie, Rte 132, originally 9c. The original landing ( a man-made hill), still stands today on the Kawnawake shoreline, not far from the exciting bridge. The bridge was twinned In late 1950's up to the mid 60's for future increased traffic. At the same time, on the Lasalle side, Whiskey Trench (this name came from the neighbouring Seagrams} was created and connected to highway 20. Read moreThis bridge need a facelift like Champlain bridge… They need a bus reserved lane shoulder third or fourth or five Lane to accommodate the traffic from Montreal LaSalle/Lachine/Mercier/Sainte-Martine/Kanawakhe/Chateauguay. Is a nightmare to cross this bridge in the morning or evening traffic jams. Hope they find the money and the structure and plan to build a new bridge with a 5 lane road crossing. The Mercier Bridge is the 5th largest bridge of the Quebec Provincial.
Read moreConstruction is constant. Weekends are a nightmare. Merging 4 lanes into 1 is not a good idea, and I have no idea why they plan it out on some of the busiest days of the week to remove 3/4 of the lanes.
Good luck lads, this bridge is the real testament to patience.
This bridge is never fixed, and it never will be. Causes so much traffic and we pay the price of...
