Starting at the Grand Portage State Park building there's a "Narrow Trail" which leads through woods and reaches the High Falls on Pigeon River. The trail is a good paved narrow road (not for vehicles) and later it is a built wooden trail with steps going towards falls viewing point. AND the view from there is simply gorgeous and can't be explained in words, even pictures don't show the actual magnificence of that grandeur. This falls is Minnesota's tallest fall. And yes, the whole area is spectacular. The trails are well maintained. We saw a fox there on the trail (but when he saw us from far away he quickly ran away in the woods), we didn't do any inappropriate behavior and remained normal. Of course please don't approach wild life (definitely NOT for taking pictures etc) as they might get stressed out. We were walking there in the morning (say early morning) and the area was beautiful, we loved it !! And ya, on the otherside of the Pigeon River there's Canada we can see ! Altogether a really amazing...
Read moreThis was so beautiful place to take the kids and the view was so beautiful and breath taking and I reccomend anyone to take 30 mins and take in the beautiful scenery. It's only about a 15 min walk to the falls. There are lots of benches to sit on along the way and a portable washroom as well. Very well kept and clean all along the trails but make sure to bring some water for yourself and the kids and pack a picnic there are picnic tables to sit and eat. Dont forget your camera as well because you will want to take a lot of photos once you arrive at the Falls. There is no fee to park or enter the park. Wheel chairs can make most of the trip but not up to the view of the Falls but still can enjoy the scenery just the same. I took my grankids and they loved the walk and didnt find it far at all. You can also read the history as you walk along the trail about the tribes and travelers that used this...
Read moreThanks to the local hiking club, it’s easy to see the high falls! It’s amazing to see in person the magnitude of the water coming over the edge of the rocks that falls as high as a 10 story building. You can see a little bit of Lake Superior from the observation deck! It would be nice if there was more parking on site. A decent amount of picnic and recreation space. It’s free to the public and no need to have a MN DNR Vehicle Permit! Please note it’s on the border of Canada and the United States and you’ll be in the Eastern Time Zone while you visit the Park. I thought time went by so fast when I was there. I didn’t realize I had crossed over into the...
