It's roughly a 2 hr drive from Gooseberry falls, but glad we made the trip. While Gooseberry was impressive in its own right, the power of the High Falls waterfall when we visited was incredible and in a completely different league. The visitor center says its roughly a 45 minute round trip hike, but average build person can make the hike in 10 minutes or less to the high falls area, which has paved and clear paths, without extreme inclines or excessive steps.

The Grand Portage High Falls of the Pigeon River is Minnesota’s highest waterfall, plummeting 120 feet into a narrow rocky gorge. The stunning view from this deck separates the United States from Canada. It’s an easy walk of approximately 6 to 7 blocks one way. There is a portable restroom about halfway there. There is a nice visitor center and plenty of parking.

The park is clean. The path is paved and easy to walk along with several stopping points. The fall is beautiful. Don't forget to checkout the stops on the way to the falls. I think it would be better in the morning as the sun will light up the valley. I went in the evening. Still beautiful to see though!

I highly recommend visiting the High Falls Overlook win Grand Portage. As a lifelong Minnesotan, I had never heard of this until recently but it is an amazing sight. Great excursion about 30min north of Grand Marais. Right on the border of Canada. The trail was paved and easy to navigate- about 1.6 miles in/back.
