We got to experience the caves high and low tide. We saw it in high tide first where there was no access to the caves via walking and water was almost up to the restaurant in the bay. We ate at the restaurant (which was delicious) and then left the area and came back at low tide. Just driving up to the caves and past the covered bridge bay showed how much the tides changes. The ships that were moored at high tide were sitting on the ocean floor at low tide. At the caves, we could walk right over to them (crossing what became a little stream along the way to get there). The caves were very interesting and cool to see up close and we were able to walk around the corner of the bay to even more caves. The experience was incredible because the crowds were small, it was free (as opposed to the Hopewell Rocks which were really cool too but more crowded), and less touristy. Overall, it was great but I do recommend seeing it in both high and low tide to truly understand how much...
Read moreIt was a beautiful September day when I visited the sea caves. It was low tide. Therefore, one could observe the vast, expansive sea bed/beach. At the same time, 6-8 tour buses were unloading tourists from the 3 cruise ships docked at Saint John Harbor. This caused a bottleneck of people waiting to cross a small creek to reach the caves, but everyone was in good spirits and friendly and helpful. There are only 2 large sea caves to enter and see, but you are able to walk quite a distance around the rocks and the shore at low tide. My consonant and I biden our time, waiting for a chance. Opening of no other individuals in the caves so that we could get a photograph of ourselves in it, and that worked out great. The town of St Martin's, the sea caves and eating seafood chowder and a lobster roll are definitely 10 Star activities to put on your...
Read moreMy sister wanted to show us the St Martins Sea Caves, so having some time off work, we decided to go on Friday. It's just over 2 hours driving from Fredericton, which isn't so bad. We had packed a picnic and brought our sunglasses, as we had a nice sunny day to go exploring. When you first get over the hump and see the sign for St Martin's, the view is amazing. I love the ocean, and when I saw this, it was amazing! Once you get to the view of the Sea Caves, that's even better! Even in the winter, this was an amazing place to visit. Definitely recommend making sure you check tides, so you can go when it's at it's lowest. That way, you can walk all the way around, to more sea caves. We sort of messed up looking for tides, but were still able to see some of the caves. Can't imagine how nice this must be to visit in...
