So very disappointed in the commercialism and policing of this church. Just one example, is that I took a communion and put it in my pocket so as to give it to my mom and I was stopped and asked what I did with it. I told the person it was in my pocket and for my 78yrs old mom who was unable to attend the mass due to medical reasons and I was told that I had to speak with the Priest and he would arrange a time to administer it to her. I am certain that there would have been a fee for this? What I did not understand was why? Why did she have to wait for an appointment with the Priest? Moreover, why only can the Priest give it to her? Do they think they own it? May I remind the church that it is LOVE that heals and that communion is not OWNED by ANYONE… it is for all who’s intention is simply Love and Healing. In addition and to conclude, what disturbed me the most was that I was being watched and questioned to what I did with it and why I did not take it? I was so shocked when I was approached. I had to show him it and take it in my mouth in order to leave. The last place I expected to be policed was the church! After 50yrs of attending church I will not be returning. I send my love and wish of many blessed...
Read moreGod bless the faithful, priests, brothers and sisters of this basilica.
I visit from time to time this beautiful basilica, struck by its stunning architecture and peaceful atmosphere. However, my experience was somewhat marred by the extremely formal atmosphere and rigid confession schedule.
As someone seeking spiritual guidance, I found the tight confession schedule to be inflexible and unaccommodating. Unfortunately, I was unable to confess due to the strict time constraints.
While I understand the importance of order and structure in a place of worship, I couldn't help but feel that the basilica's formal atmosphere and inflexible policies detracted from the sense of community and compassion that I've experienced in other Catholic churches.
Despite this, I would still recommend visiting this beautiful basilica for its historical significance, stunning artwork, and peaceful ambiance. Perhaps, in the future, the basilica will consider adopting a more flexible and welcoming approach to confession and community engagement.
This review aims to provide constructive feedback while still being respectful of the basilica...
Read moreThis place is a treasure, I've gone many times and even now on and off after many years. Even while no longer living near it anymore. Nostalgia! But ok, as far as a church goes, this is a wonderful bastion of faith. And located very pristinely in the heart of downtown, yet it seems in a small world of its own on the outskirts.
This church has a good history, and is very expertly designed. The aura within and without match and coordinate perfectly, I find. And of course there is a small tinge of "Irish charm" to it, so to say. Maybe due to the patron it is named after, maybe the green that can be seen, but assuredly a mystique.
Furthermore this place has a very lovely gift shop in the basement, a separate grotto, also underground, for more privacy, and even very nice and clean washrooms.
This is a large and active church. A very wonderful and not so hidden gem.
The art and feeling do justice.
I'm glad it...
