At first glance, Sooke Museum may seem unassuming, but it holds a treasure trove of local history. The collection includes fascinating photographs, artifacts, and informative displays that bring the area's past to life.

One of the most intriguing exhibits is the detailed information about shipwrecks that occurred in these waters, offering a glimpse into the maritime history of the region. We were also captivated by the real-life story behind a displayed canoe, which adds a personal and immersive touch to the experience.

Additionally, the gift shop is a hidden gem, offering an impressive selection of books on local flora, fauna, birds, mushrooms, and the unique culture of the region. Before leaving, we couldn’t resist buying a beautiful and incredibly comfortable scarf—our final treasure from this wonderful visit.

This museum is truly a fantastic place to explore and understand Sooke. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature...

Lots of unique gifts. Poor rating is for the staff attitude. Was approached by a less than pleasant older woman (Grey hair, wore her glasses toward her nose). This woman did not greet us but rather in a judgemental tone asked if my son was going to put the puppet he was holding in his mouth (he was not, he was just holding it) and then proceeded to make a comment about needing to buy things before playing with them (we planned to and did buy the puppet). It left us feeling very unwelcomed and I wish I didn't financially support them but the overpriced puppet was making my kids very happy, so I caved. I wouldn't go back though as the customer service and general pleasentry...

The Sooke museum and visitor center is a great stopover for a bathroom break and to look at the history of the region with a small area. The museum is free to enter, not busy even on a weekend afternoon, and has lots to offer for information on the historical events of Sooke. From its bear bridge, to the industrial production of wood and other items, the museum even comes with a mini art gallery run by University students on the upper floor. I loved the museum plus the gift store has lots of offers too. The employees there were also nice, and public washrooms are available. I recommend anybody who is visiting Sooke to stop by this place as a must. You...

Such a little gem of a place and packed with artifacts and lots of good background info on the history of the area. The gift ship is well stocked with a lot of nice quality items such as jewelery, scarves and ceramic mugs. There is also a lighthouse and a number of large pieces of old logging equipment on the grounds which are interesting to view. There is a nice green space and a few picnic tables if you want to take a break here. Additional bonus is this museum houses an Info center so you can ask the staff any questions you may have and pick up helpful brochures. Washrooms are also available here. This is a great pit stop if you want to learn about the Sooke area.

A fantastic pit stop on your way to Juan de Fuca. The staff there are super friendly and can share insights on attractions and seasonality expectation. There are also lots of resources free to take that can help you gain some knowledge about particular attraction points. The historical equipment and items were very neat, love the knowledge shared along with some story telling audio display. Please don't forget to support this location and get some post cards or merchandise!!
