At first glance, Sooke Museum may seem unassuming, but it holds a treasure trove of local history. The collection includes fascinating photographs, artifacts, and informative displays that bring the area's past to life.
One of the most intriguing exhibits is the detailed information about shipwrecks that occurred in these waters, offering a glimpse into the maritime history of the region. We were also captivated by the real-life story behind a displayed canoe, which adds a personal and immersive touch to the experience.
Additionally, the gift shop is a hidden gem, offering an impressive selection of books on local flora, fauna, birds, mushrooms, and the unique culture of the region. Before leaving, we couldn’t resist buying a beautiful and incredibly comfortable scarf—our final treasure from this wonderful visit.
This museum is truly a fantastic place to explore and understand Sooke. A must-visit for history enthusiasts and nature...

It left us feeling very unwelcomed and I wish I didn't financially support them but the overpriced puppet was making my kids very happy, so I caved. I wouldn't go back though as the customer service and general pleasentry...
Read moreThe Sooke museum and visitor center is a great stopover for a bathroom break and to look at the history of the region with a small area. The museum is free to enter, not busy even on a weekend afternoon, and has lots to offer for information on the historical events of Sooke. From its bear bridge, to the industrial production of wood and other items, the museum even comes with a mini art gallery run by University students on the upper floor. I loved the museum plus the gift store has lots of offers too. The employees there were also nice, and public washrooms are available. I recommend anybody who is visiting Sooke to stop by this place as a must. You...
