Embarking on the Sea to Sky Summit trail in Squamish is an immersive journey from the coast to the mountain top, a true delight for nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts. This moderately challenging trail stretches over 7.5 km with a net elevation change of 835 m, and typically takes around 3 hours to conquer.
The adventure begins at the base of the Sea to Sky Gondola, where hikers are met with captivating natural scenery. One of the unique aspects of this trail is the awe-inspiring Upper Shannon Falls, which provides a tranquil moment of reflection before continuing the climb.
As the path ascends, breathtaking views of Squamish unfold below, and you find yourself beneath the gondola, waving at passengers while taking in the stunning view of The Spit. The trail continues to wind upward, with some sections presenting a steep challenge, but the stunning vistas at the summit make every step worth it.
Reaching the summit, the allure of a cold beer at the lodge is hard to resist – a perfect reward for the trek up. For the descent, the gondola offers a smooth and scenic ride back to the base. Downloads cost $20 for a ride in the Gondola, and dogs need their own ticket.
There's also a surprise for the adventurous at heart, as we saw people and dogs taking a refreshing swim at one point. Do note that some sections of the trail are exposed and can lead to sunburn if you're not careful. Despite this, the overall experience is one of awe-inspiring natural beauty and adventure. From the amazing lookout spots to the tranquil waterfall, the Sea to Sky Summit trail is a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable day in the...
Read moreThis trail is really beautiful and cool, however it does take a while to complete (around 3-5 hours) So, I would recommend to leave early if you plan to hike this trail. In the start, you have to go through the Stawamus Chief Trail for around 20 minutes, until the trail splits and you can enter the sea to summit trail. The trail itself isn’t too difficult it’s just that it takes a while to hike and reach the summit. This trail also has ropes and chains on the upper part of the trail to support hikers when they are climbing steep hills and other obstacles similar to that. Once you reach the summit there are lots of activities to do, such was walk around the smaller trails around the summit, as well as walking on the huge suspension bridge. There are also two ways that you can take to head back to the parking lot, hiking or taking the gondola. If you plan to hike just make sure you have enough time of daylight so you don’t get lost on the trail since the trail is a bit difficult to navigate during low visibility. If you take the gondola it costs $20 for a download ticket back to the parking lot, I would recommend to take the gondola down since it has amazing views of Squamish and the river. Overall, I definitely would recommend this to hikers looking for a longer hike but not too hard, as well as a really good view...
Read moreBeautiful but definitely a difficult hike if you’re a beginner hiker like myself. First half of the hike is uphill with very steep inclines which can be very challenging so take your time and take as many breaks as needed. Around the 3/4 mark, the trail forks off to either the Shannon Basin Loop or to continue on the Sea to Summit trail. Although the Shannon Basin Loop is longer by a kilometre, it is recommended if you’re tired but will still pose a challenge with its continuous uphill trekking. I’d recommend coming before 10am as the parking fills up quick and to give yourself enough time to complete the hike. It took us about 6.5 hours with plenty of breaks but depending on your fitness level it can take less time. Stunning viewpoints throughout and the views at the top make the hike worth it. Ride the gondola down at the end for $20. Overall, would recommend but take caution if you’re a beginner hiker as I found it more difficult than anticipated. Bring snacks, lots of water, comfortable hiking shoes, sunscreen and bug...
