I tell this story when I take my tour guests to Shannon Falls.

The tale of the Sínulhka. It was a massive two-headed serpent that once roamed through the Squamish territory, its horrible shrieks frightening the people in the village of Stá7mes, Squamish. Xwechtáal, a young warrior, was tasked with killing the serpent. He pursued it up Siyám Smánit where it left a striking black streak, now known as the Black Dyke. For four years, Xwechtáal pursued the serpent until he was able to slay it as it rested in a lake.

The main point of interest is Shannon Falls, the third highest waterfall in BC, where water falls from a height of 335 meters (1,099 ft). The falls are named after a William Shannon who first settled the property in 1889 and made bricks...

Breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls! There's a big parking lot and at first you hear the traffic on the highway and then as you walk up the trail, the sounds of splashing the waterfall take over. Closer to the parking lot, there were washrooms and a picnic area with tons of wooden tables and even a spot or two for barbecue. I'm not a hiker and yet I found it very easy to walk up towards the waterfalls, it's also a short walk and you can go up further to get even closer to the waterfall. It's mesmerizing to see how the water movement has sculpted the rocks there. Apparently in the spring the water is even more wild as the snow melts from the mountains nearby

Short easy walk upto the viewpoint of Shannon falls. There are 2 paths to the viewpoint. 1 path is paved and good for strollers/ wheelchairs. The other path is dirt and gravel with a gradual minimal incline. We had 2 seniors and 1 person with forearm crutches and the dirt and gravel path wasn't too difficult for them. Large bathroom close to the parking lot. Lots of picnic tables. Nice creek on the way to the falls that you can walk down to easily.
