A great fenced area with double gate system to prevent anyone’s pet from wandering out. Most owners are very friendly and helpful. There are garbage bins at each gate and in a central covered area with benches. My dog really enjoys being able to run laps, untethered. The two issues I have with the park are:
people not picking up after their dogs I pick up dog feces when I see them and several times I have approached an owner to offer a bag when it was evident they had no intention of picking up their dog’s fresh feces. Usually this is met with a “Oh I forgot to bring bags” excuse but when a friend offered a bag to one negligent owner, she was subjected to a barrage of profanity and rude comments with threatening posture! I can understand that when people are socialising with other dog owners they may not see their dog squat, but it’s inconsiderate to other park users to not be diligent in watching your pet.
people bringing dogs they know to be aggressive and releasing them in the park Each time I’ve visited, there has been a “bully” dog harassing smaller dogs, or an aggressive dog has started a fight or bit at other dogs without provocation. The owners make excuses such as “Oh he’s just a big puppy and doesn’t know biting isn’t okay” or “He’s just playing” or even “He’s never bitten before!” when, in fact, that dog bit my neighbour’s foster dog, requiring stitches! These owners continue to let their dogs off the leash and ignore them while socialising with other regular park users. Not acceptable, but also not monitored. I have never seen any type of enforcement officer at the park to address these issues. I take my large dog to this park but will not bring my two small dogs given the regular attendance of a few uncontrolled,...
We have been coming here for years, and our pooch loves it. In the summertime, so many places aren't safe for swimming where you can take your dogs, so I'm very thankful for this one. There are three elements that go with this dog park. One is the classic big dog park, the newly renovated smaller dog park and then the "fenced" dog beach part of the lake. When I say fenced I mean it's desglignated, and when I say beach I mean.... most of it is mud and it's caved it and there are boulders. There used to be a more elegant wading into the water area and now; not so much. We make sure to have water shoes that fasten to our feet and shorts with us if we are going in as you can't stand in the shallow area very easily. There is a picnic area and barn stable fencing that people tend to leave their belongings/leashes on and that works just fine. Make sure you bring your bags as sometimes they are out here. All in all - it's a great place to beat the heat but if your pet isn't well trained and you don't like getting a little dirty, maybe not the...
Read moreThere are so many friendly folks that come here, the parking lot has plenty of space most of the day, there is a shelter with washrooms and the lake is great! The washrooms are clean and have been well stocked. There are lots of garbage cans to place your doggy poo bags, empty cans, etc that are never overflowing. I regularly see St. Albert City staff come down to check the place out to see if things need to be emptied, cleaned or restocked. The area is well lit in the evening/night so it's safe to take a stroll. The lake is stocked with trout! This is a highlight for me! The fish are usually smaller but sometimes you catch a big one! There are crawfish along the shore as well. Sadly people dump there goldfish and koi in the lake, hopefully this does not ruin future stocking. The lake isn't super clean, but it is filled with life. The grounds around the lake are beautiful and the fountain in the...
