This is my message to parents who don’t want to risk your once a life family whale watching trip. This company is not trustful at all.
We booked our 6pm trip for July 27 on July 25 around 5:20pm, and received confirmation and then reminding message on July. 27 12:38pm. We packed for cold weather, drove for about two hours, and arrived Tiverton island around 4:10pm. On 4:28pm we received a phone call from the company office and was told the trip was cancelled because the other family wanted to reschedule their trip, and the 6pm trip they only had two families, we and the family. We went to their office and tried to find solution, such as share the cost. The office staff connected us with one of the 2 owners via phone and we were told that the reason for cancellation was: there was no whales that day, so don’t go. Then we talked to the other owner, the captain Mat who just backed from the 2pm trip. The 2pm trip people told us they saw 3-4 whales. The captain told us that the reason of cancellation was that it was windy and cold. The weather there was sunny, without any cloud and wind.
It looked like all 3 staff made different excuses. Cancellation 90 minutes prior to the sailing was ridiculous, not respectful and unacceptable especially when 3 staff made different excuses.
But the trail to Boar’s head lighthouse was fantastic and it is free. We didn’t go to the balancing rock because we planned for three hour sailing for the day, and the island is so small we felt kind of unsafe because the LYING Adventure Bay whale watch company which is located on the island, the ferry is the only way to leave the island.
There are lots of whale watching businesses in the area. I will not recommend the LYING Adventure Bay whale...
Read moreOn Friday, we joined the 2PM whale watching tour with Captain Matt and his crew aboard the Cassie & Boys. It was our second time whale watching—the first was back in Newfoundland in the summer of 2017—so this was our first time doing it in Nova Scotia.
The outing totally lived up to expectations (and the strong Google reviews). Captain Matt and his crew were super friendly and welcoming. We lucked out with absolutely perfect weather. Within about an hour of heading out, we spotted several humpback whales—probably 4 or 5 in total. They came fairly close, and we got some incredible views, photos, and videos.
The boat wasn’t crowded, so we could walk around freely and enjoy the experience from all angles. The whole trip lasted about 3 hours, and everything felt smooth and well-run.
Getting there was easy—you just take a short (and free) ferry that runs every 30 minutes each way. As soon as you get off the ferry, the office and dock are right there, super convenient.
I’d recommend bringing a few layers, sunscreen, and maybe a couple snacks or drinks. The boat was very clean and even had a bathroom onboard, which made things extra comfortable.
All in all, a really memorable experience and a great way to spend the day with family. Would...

They are only in it for the money. If there are less than 10 passengers they WILL NOT take you on the tour.
We booked the tour on Thursday around 6PM for the tour on Saturday 6-9pm, guess what time they canceled our tour? THEY CANCELED OUR TOUR 90 MINUTES BEFORE THE TOUR.
My father, mother and I offered to pay the price of 7 passengers extra ($360 for 7 kids) and they still would not take us.
The captain gave us 3 different excuses including one about how the whales have moved. We spoke to a family that had just came back from their 2pm-5pm tour and they had seen ATLEAST 3-4 whales throughout the duration of this trip.
My family drove all the way from Halifax, rented a car, booked 2 nights at 2 different hotels along to way to get to "Adventure Bay Whale Watch Company" and all they had to say to us was "I'm sorry" and offer a refund.
I'm extremely disappointed in the captain and employees. We were really looking forward to this amazing tour but the GREED of the captain stopped us from enjoying our family trip.
Note: Below I have attached a video of the conditions of the waters 2 hours before the departure of our 6pm tour that...
