The museum is very nice but...... I came out of the museum at 1530(330pm) in the afternoon and my passenger side window was smashed in and the items under cover in my hatchback were gone. When the police arrived, they asked me to pop my hood. Luckily my engine was still there but my suitcases with my clothes and belongings were not. I flew back to NY in winter with a 1 year old child in shorts. The foundation after reaching out to them, never responded. The police never bothered to ask for any information, just printed up a police report and sent us on our way, saying we are having problems in this area. We were parked right in front of the museum at 1530 in the afternoon(broad daylight) on Feb. 19, 2020 The museum/Neruda foundation did not have a sign or security. My recommendation is to avoid Isla Negra and the Neruda museum. There are other things to see in Chile in much better areas. If you choose to go look out for any paid parking you can find; we did not see any. The museum is very nice, just not worth the substantial...
Read moreMy third visit to this amazing museum. Enjoy the eclectic collectibles gathered by Neruda on his world travels. Be sure to watch the film at the beginning (Spanish with English subtitles) as it provides essential historical context for the wonders you will see on the tour. Self-guided with a recording for each "stop". The restaurant has excellent food, with a menu inspired by Neruda's own culinary tastes and life story. He was particularly fond of hearty soups and stews! Perfect food if the weather is chilly...on an astounding patio overlooking the pounding surf of the Pacific. Excellent gift shop with books, clothing and collectibles. Lovely setting - public beach below, steps from the door of the museum. However, do not swim as the undertow is an extreme hazard. There are many artisans and craftspeople selling jewelry and...
Read morePoet Pablo Neruda's house museum in the beach town of Isla Negra. The place it's lovely: the enormous collection of art, artefacts and furniture. The view of the beach and the garden are beautiful and the restaurant in the museum offers a nice variety of delicious sea food and fish. My only dislike is that if you'd like to learn about Pablo Neruda's work or his life as a politician there's nothing. So it works great for a day out at the beach, visit the house of a Nobel Prize winner and have a tasty lunch with a great view. But if you wanted to learn about his poetry or his legacy as a politician, try...
