I mean, just wow.
I was nearly speechless.
Having traveled in more than 15 countries so far, this wins as the most stunning, the most majestic place I've ever been. Absolutely incredible.
When we walked down the first bridge, turned the corner and saw the first waterfalls, I was impressed. I almost turned around, thinking I had seen it all. Good thing we kept going and paid the park entrance to go in and see the real thing.
As others have said, pictures cannot capture the beauty, the magnificence, and the power of these waterfalls. At several points, I caught myself walking around with my mouth open, I was so in awe.
I also had this panicked feeling, realizing that we almost skipped coming here. That would have been an incredible shame if we had missed this. For anyone visiting Puerto Varas, there are lots of amazing things to see and do, but this has to be at the top of your...
Read moreThis is a relatively commercial/touristy place with paid parking ($1000 chilean) and also paid entry. There may be many tour buses outside and plenty of people wanting to take selfies and pictures near and at the main attraction-a set of cascading white waterfalls over black basalt blocks. The view and the Petrohue river are indeed spectacular but the fact that it is a popular tourist attraction does reduce the experience. There are two hiking trails that are not paved which make for more interesting walking and which brings you through temperate rainforest vegetation, along the river, past a stream and a small lake. Less people and absolutely beautiful. And if you want a more quiet place to enjoy the roaring rapids of the Petrohue river head up the road towards the hamlet of Petrohue- close to the signposted Saltos the river is close...
