The view in the gorge is nice and interesting. It is a very short section in the down stream behind the main dam of Shing Mun Reservoir. The routes listed here are the easiest ones to reach the gorge. From the gorge, it is possible to walk toward Tai Wai where lots of dining options awaiting.
The easiest way to visit is to take mini bus #82 from Tsuen Wan (Siu Wo Street). Walk from the final stop at Shing Mun Reservoir to the main dam. At the south end of the dam, walk toward BBQ Site 9/Kowloon Reservoir direction. A bit further, there is a directional signage pointing at different directions; Kowloon Reservoir, Wilson Trail, Shing Mun Reservoir. Facing the signage, there is a staircase leading downward without indication of where it leads to. Take these steps downward toward the bottom of the dam, and then walk along the trail at the gorge.
Alternatively, walk to the middle of the main dam. There is a maintenance use staircase leading from the top of the dam to the bottom. This is not for public use and therefore the railing is locked. But many visitors simply climb through it. To reach the trail along the gorge, from the bottom of the dam, you need to climb a maintenance ladder downward.
This is the area where both routes meet. Next to it is the water discharge from the dam. ⚠️ This area, as it is close to water discharge threshold, it could be dangerous during rainy days.
At the end of the trail, underneath the flyover section of Shing Mun Tunnel, after crossing a metal foot bridge, follow the paved traffic road will lead to Tai Wai in an hour.
Tips : For those who only want the most interesting part of the trail or doesn'twant to spent 30mins walking on the relatively boring paved road, private car/taxi can reach the main dam directly. Walk toward Tai Wai is another boring 1hr section on paved traffic road. Hence, there is nothing to miss by returning after seeing the flyover of SM Tunnel. A section of the metal footbridge along the gorge is a bit steep and it could be slippery...
