Shing Mun Reservoir Main Dam — Attraction in Hong Kong

The main dam of the reservoir is called the Gorge Dam situated at the southern end of the reservoir. It incorporates several technological advances which were not used in precious dams. The dam consists of reinforced concrete diaphragm wall, a concrete thrust block, an absorbent sand wedge and rock fill on the downstream side. The upstream face of the dam is steeply sloped with a fair-face concrete finish. The downstream side has a slope with a gentle gradient faced with masonry incorporating several berms. Easy walk around the reservoir, up to the more challenging needle hill and everything in between. There are various trails for different difficulty that crisscross this area.

Scenery is fair, and many trails have overhung vegetation for shade (needle hill excluded). Easier sections will be more crowded during weekends and holidays.

Transportation is readily available, but spare more time for peak season.

Pretty nice and quiet place to visit, you could have a BBQ here and there are tons of places for you to do it. You could walk up but it will take quite a while (20 minutes) to get up there from the nearest bus stop. There seems to be a way to drive up so that may make more sense.
