Lovely spot, especially late in the year when humidity and temperature are down. We did a full circuit of the reservoir clockwise from the pineapple dam side. 9K including the side trip to the viewing deck after half-way which is a proper view, unlike the viewing point just before it. The first 3k was nice and easy but it got tougher after that with quite a few ups and downs - tough on the calf muscles. We had a couple of 5-6 yr olds with us and they managed most of it without begging to be carried. I would not classify it as an easy family hike, rather a tough long family walk - but it is buggy friendly if you have a small one. For fit hikers, it is just a long trip which you could also run as a tough 9k if you are a runner. Very nice scenery and peaceful if you omit the annoying occasional monkeys who typically gather near the picnic areas. We got the 82 from Tsuen Wan since you can't get close any other way and exiting the shing mun bus interchange is not possible on foot. Very frequent and fast service on weekends. If I was to change anything, next time I would go anti-clockwise, main dam first to get the long road up from the bus out of the way along with the worst of the later ups and downs done early in the walk when I am fresher. Overall my whole party enjoyed the day immensely. Lovely spot - a slice of HK that everyone...
