Somerset Heping Shenyang — Attraction in Shenyang City

Stayed one week in summer. Convenient to train station and I suppose most anywhere in Shenyang. The hotel is located at the end of Taiyuan, a pedestrian shopping street with a number of weathered, grotty-looking malls whose interiors are better maintained. Have a look and be surprised. There is a convenience store on the ground floor of the hotel-apt, and a supermarket in the neighboring building that stocks fresh produce and carries a small selection of imported food items. Walmart is two blocks away. There are literally hundreds of sharebikes in the vicinity should you have access to the apps and be in need. The hotel claims to have a number of services available that I did not avail, including shuttle service to shopping centers, yoga lessons, Mandarin lessons, cooking lessons, and weekly film screenings in its on-site cinema. Best feature for me was in-room bookshelf stereo. The system was puny, with thin sound from the speakers, but it was great to be able to listen to music without headphones. Cleanliness was spotty, including dusty shelves, dusty windows, and refuse on the carpets (weak vacuum cleaner, or perhaps perfunctory vacuuming). Good in-room washing machine, decently equipped kitchen. Excellent wifi, no passwords required. Breakfast was good, with a fair selection Chinese, Japanese, and Western food items. Staff were friendly and service was mostly good. Biggest issue was noise from a couple of the vendors on Taiyuan who use large speakers to yell at pedestrians. Because the windows at Somerset are not double-paned or otherwise soundproofed, you can hear these idiots quite clearly morning-til-night, even on the 15th floor (which made the in-room stereo...

The location of this place is very good because it is v near to Shenyang Station and also near to Taiyuan Street. The breakfast buffet here is 100/100. The menu changed everyday which surprised me!! Cleanliness of the hotel can be improved. The facilities are rather old and there is a moldy smell in the room. We stayed at level 26 and booked a family room with two bathrooms which is great for us. However, the water from the common shower room can be hot and cold while you are showering giving us a shock every time we shower. It could be v cold, and it could be v hot after a while without adjustment. We are unsure what the issue was. We were only staying for 3 nights hence it didn't bother us to inform the front desk. The door was spoilt, unable to close the shower room door as well. Please look into it if possible. One thing to surface, we felt differential treatment from the front desk. We were in a lift with a Caucasian family, and we exited the lift together. The Caucasian family exited the place with the staff greeted VERY happily in english "GOOOOOOOD MORNING" so loudly that we were able to hear it. When the same staff saw us, he literally went from :D to -.- IMMEDIATELY and never greeted us. We had a delightful stay at Somerset Heping Shenyang! Location is priceless: The property sits right beside Taiyuan Street (太原街), Shenyang’s premier pedestrian shopping street, and is just steps away from trendy malls, department stores, cafés, and a wide range of dining options. Within a few minutes’ walk, you’ll reach Shenyang Railway Station and the Taiyuanjie Metro station, offering swift access to the wider city. The staff were warm, attentive, and efficient, with some guests even noting that robotic room service was available on request. Breakfast featured a generous buffet with both Western and Chinese options. Overall impression: Excellent service, superb facilities (including spa, gym, kids’ playroom, sauna, and game room), and unbeatable location make this a standout choice for both business and leisure travelers.
