Canglang Pavilion — Attraction in Suzhou City

The Canglang Pavilion (simplified Chinese: 沧浪亭), variously translated as the Great Wave Pavilion, Surging Wave Pavilion, or Blue Wave Pavilion, is one of the Classical Gardens of Suzhou that are jointly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. it is one of the most famous yuanlin garden in suzhou (one of the four, with zhuo zheng yuan拙政园, shi zi lin狮子林, liu yuan留园) The Canglang Pavilion was built in 1044 CE(Southern Song Dynasty) The name is derived from a verse in the poem Fishermen by Qu Yuan (ca. 340 BCE-278 BCE), a poet from the southern state of Chu during the Warring States period, in his book Songs of the South, "If the Canglang River is dirty I wash my muddy feet; If the Canglang River is clean I wash my ribbon"(沧浪之水清兮可以濯我缨，沧浪浊兮可以濯我足). This verse alludes to an honest and upright official who removes himself from politics rather than act in a corrupt manner. Su Shunqing choose this to express his feelings after his removal from office. the whole yuanlin garden is not as large as zhuo zheng yuan, usually takes just 1 hour to finish one round. after visiting here it is strongly strongerly strongestly!!!!! RECOMMENDATION to visit the Ke Yuan可园 at the opposite, (preferably at a rainy day but if not that is also ok), that is a little known yuanlin garden but somewhere in my humble opinion better than one of other yuanlin garden in Suzhou these two garden yuanlin could share the ticket and the price is very modest, and it wouldnt take too long REALLYYYYYYYYY...

Decent garden with plenty of history, but from a purely aesthetic perspective it doesn’t stack up to many of the other gardens in Suzhou, including KeYuan which is located across the street. Buying a combined ticket with KeYuan is the way to go, as it makes both gardens more affordable with the discount and it allows you to appreciate the history and the beauty that might be missed if you only saw...
