If there's lower than zero this will be my score of this horrible dirty beach with the rudest locals I've ever encountered in my travel destinations. If you're an international tourist or locals avoid this place. Ask your travel agency the islands name included in your tour. If Cholon island is included in your tour just cancel. It will ruin your island hopping experience in Cartagena. This island has small huts and party boats in the water. The music is so loud. Garbage floats every where, The beach is murky and a lot of annoying vendors and locals harassing you. There are dirty portable toilets that you have to pay to use. When I was there, I overheard people talking about peeing in the ocean rather than paying. This place is so unhygienic. Next, The local vendors are pushy and rude. Many vendors will approach you to have free tasting of what they sell but once you tried it, they will force you to buy it. Otherwise, they will harass you. Also, taking photos of vendor stores or anything owned by the locals will also cost you, as they demand you to pay. The price of food, beers and drinks are double even triple. Also the infrastructure of the place is unsafe and dirty! so, be careful and don't put your health and life at risk! I intended not to get off on the next island, as the thrill just died out in me. I just want to stay in the boat and don't leave until were done. I warned you, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY IN THIS FILTHY ISLAND! DON’T BE FOOLED BY PHOTOS OF THIS ISLAND and Don't let your beautiful experience (culture, history and food) in Cartagena died out because of...
Read moreStay away from this island if you’re not native to the area they will take full advantage of you. We took an island tour and this was one of the stops and we just wanted to find a quieter place because we don’t party. When you pull up they are already hounding you to buy this and that. The “massage” ladies will not take no for an answer. They start touching and rubbing you. They tried to charge us 1,200,000p for 1 water 2 beers and 2 cokes and a pair of 350,000p water shoes made in China . Like get real . They thought we were gonna fall for it. Because my husband cut his foot on some trash in the water. they try to make up the prices on their own. But double check the menu they give you. They also add their own tip onto your “bill” which was hand written on a piece of paper. They got into a full blown argument with us and even followed us back to the boat. The whole time they were talking about how they were gonna get so much money outta us because they didn’t think we knew what they were saying. I would avoid this nasty island at all costs unless you wanna blow what you have brought to spend your whole trip on this crowded...
Read moreWe stopped at a little “water restaurant” in Cholon for a late lunch on our private boating tour. Boats pull up and can anchor down in the shallow water. There are tons of tables in the (waist deep) water where you can drink, have fun, eat, and relax. You legit eat standing in the water at the tables. It was definitely a cool party spot, BUT we got RIPPED off in the process. We ordered lots of food from the menu and asked if they also had margaritas. We made the mistake of not asking how much the margaritas were. When we got the bill, IMMEDIATELY I knew we had been ripped off. They charged us for 7 margaritas at ~$17 USD ($75,000 COP) PER margarita (roughly 8 ounces). Even though we had been drinking, we knew this wrong and a classic tourist trap. We asked the servers about the bill and they refused to change it. We were stuck on an island in a foreign country and decided to pay the bill and get back to Cartagena ASAP. Colombia is such a lovely country with so many amazing people, but I felt like I had to write this to warn other travelers visiting. Pick another area in the...
