Maybe my expectations were too high after reading the mostly great reviews here & elsewhere, plus enthusiastic recommendations by Colombian friends. But this place disappointed me on so many levels (and for context, I LOVED nearly every other place I visited in my 5 weeks in Colombia!) Here’s my honest review:

For a place that charges a significant admission price (US $20-30), it’s very poorly maintained. Totally old school changing rooms, showers and toilets, which, even on a less busy weekday were neglected, smelly and unsanitary. Not sure where all the admission money goes considering they get hundreds or even thousands of visitors each day, but it certainly is not spent on maintaining the place.

Don’t expect calm or tranquility or proximity to nature here. This is very much a lively, sometimes chaotic, family leisure destination. Most visitors are families with children running around screaming, and very loud music plays from huge speakers. (Fun if you happen to be a family with energetic kids, but if you’re an individual or a couple hoping to relax, this isn’t a good place.)

For anyone accustomed to hot springs that are actually hot, you’ll again be disappointed. Even the man-made pools here are lukewarm at best, maybe 32°C, or about the temperature of a child’s bath. And the large natural pool under the beautiful waterfall is borderline cold. So if you’re wishing to soak in properly hot water, this unfortunately isn’t your place either.

Online information sources imply these hot springs are located 30-40 minutes drive from Pereira. In reality it takes way longer. Even by private Uber car, the trip took 1 1/2 hours there, and just over an hour back, and this was at night with zero traffic and no rain. With daytime traffic and/or rain it would probably take much longer.

The food served by the handful of restaurants and kiosks here is totally substandard. Perhaps not surprising for such a popular tourist destination, but it was so bland and poorly cooked as to almost be inedible.

The locks & keys & flimsy lockers provided (at a small extra cost) to store belongings & valuables in the changing room are so tiny and flimsy that anyone could break the lock or door latch with a firm twist of fingers. The visitors all seemed friendly & honest, so I imagine theft isn’t too common here, but I definitely wouldn’t leave a passport or anything very valuable in the lockers, as it would be incredibly easy to open them. (Again, with minimal extra investment the facility could provide lockers & locks that actually safeguard belongings. But everything is neglected here)

I visited late at night on a weekday, and was told it’s the least crowded time, yet it was packed with people almost to the point where there was no room to sit comfortably in the baths. I can barely imagine how full it gets on weekends, which is when the real crowds arrive.

In short, I get why this place might make sense for Colombian families just wanting to experience something different and are not bothered too much about tranquility. But’s a shame a place charging such a high entry fee delivers such poor value in terms of basic facilities &...

While the hot spring pools are located in magnificent natural setting with the astonishing view of the waterfalls in background, the Balneario (baths) left a few questions and surprises to be answered. Well advertised as the place to go in the region that you absolutely cannot missed by many guides and tour books, it builds high expectations for visitors like myself. But the reality underperforms those expectations really. They have 4 large pools, but not too large. Definitely not enough for the amount of people they allow for the shift. My group of friends tried to play smart and organized the visit on Monday. That did not help! The lineup of tour buses at the entrance and long lines immediately thwarted our plans. The second issue, is cleanness. The pools are not shining to say the least. The people are not vetted for possible skin or other health issues. I found myself next to an older gentlemen with questionable-looking skin in the pool but noone cared. The changing rooms are not clean, not convenient: you get a modestly sized box with the lock where you have to pay each time you want to open up and get something from your bag. There is absolutely nothing provided - no towels, toiletries ... They allow you to stay generous 5+ hours but frankly speaking there is not much to do for such long time other than sitting still in the pools overfilled with people or eat from fast food joints around them with long lines to get...

MUY MALA EXPERIENCIA! No me gustó para nada el sitio. En cuanto a la atención no es buena, los empleados me parecieron demasiado despreocupados, dado que lo que finalmente buscan los clientes, y se supondría que el sitio, es un espacio de relax, descanso y cero preocupación… Pero hay muchas incomodidades en el lugar que el mismo personal, puede evitarle a los visitantes. Para empezar, cuando compré las entradas, la vendedora supo que yo iba con dos personas adultas de más de 60 años, situación que debió tener en cuenta para ofrecer el transporte interno que ofrecen en el sitio, para subir la pendiente que hay de acceso al lugar, lo cual de antemano yo desconocía, o sino nunca las hubiera llevado allá, porque me vi en serias complicaciones para ayudarlas a subir y encima con maletas. Pasando un pésimo momento, dado que también me generó mucha preocupación el pensar en el descenso más tarde, y tuve que gastar mi tiempo preguntando si podía contratar algún tipo de transporte adicional 🙄… Otra persona que pudo informarnos que había algún tipo de transporte, fue el vigilante que permite el acceso al lugar, quien tampoco se inmutó en comentar que existía esa posibilidad, y más bien, por conveniencia de él, empezó a ofrecer un transporte que un amigo brinda para viajar a Santa Rosa. Algo que no tenía que ver directamente, con el sitio para el que trabaja.

Después de en la tarde, haberme tomado el trabajo de averiguar y así obtener conocimiento de que existía un modo de transportar a mis familiares de regreso… Al momento de disponernos a bajar, pedí que viniera por ellas dicho transporte, y nos hicieron esperar más de media hora. Mis familiares estaban cansadas, no habían sillas decentes donde pudieran esperar, y ya se empezó a acercar la hora en la que abajo salía el transporte para Santa Rosa, insistí varias veces y nada, fue otro momento de mucho estrés para nosotras, y finalmente cuando llegó el señor, dijo que estaba cenando OMG!

También me pareció el colmo que cobren el servicio de casilleros. Deberían ir incluidos en el valor de la entrada, que no es para nada económica. Usan candados ya obsoletos mandados a recoger, cuando ahora existen los loaker digitalizados… Para acceder a dichos guardaderos, lo hacen pasar a uno por la incomodidad de hacer una fila en una pendiente, que roba tiempo para el supuesto disfrute que se va a obtener, y a parte del cobro, piden un depósito de 20.000 por candado, lo que también me pareció exagerado. Eso hace que un cliente que quizá vaya medido en su dinero, no pueda consumir comida o bebidas en el lugar. La verdad todo me pareció muy mal pensado allá!!

En cuanto a las zonas húmedas, el color del agua se ve súper desagradable y las piscinas muy abandonadas. Y ni hablar del olor… Huele terrible! Nada que ver con el olor normal a azufre que he sentido en otros termales, como por ejemplo en Manizales (Esos si son unos termales espectaculares) Pienso que para la cantidad de dinero que le entra al lugar, podrían tenerlo más bonito, más agradable y cómodo para sus visitantes, que por cierto son muchos y mucha gente del exterior. Deberían de verdad pensar en los clientes y brindar una mejor experiencia! A parte la comida muy regular también, para los costos que normalmente ofrecen en estos lugares. Carísimo y malo!

Y como si fuera poco, súper desorganizados! Se supone que el sitio cuenta con un espacio para las cosas extraviadas, y tiene un encargado, al cual debe llegar cuanto objeto perdido encuentren y reciba, cualquier individuo del personal. Pues no! Resulta que perdimos un celular, el cual la persona que lo encontró, lo entregó inmediatamente a un vigilante, persona que no se inmutó en entregarlo, y ni tan siquiera informarlo a la persona encargada y pasamos un súper mal rato, esperando información. Esto nos generó muchísima angustia, haciendo que perdiéramos tiempo. Con los días vinieron a informar del hallazgo del celular y fue enviado por correo a la casa. Cosa que jamás debió suceder, cuando en el momento que se reclamó el objeto, estaba bajo la propiedad de ellos....
