You have to pay $5 USD to park at Playa Brasilito then take a 15 - 20 minute walk to Playa Conchal. I normally wouldn't mind this but that was the most littered area I came across in the country. You can't take a single step without seeing broken bits of plastic. It left a terrible final impression on an otherwise beautiful natural experience I had everywhere else in the country.
At Conchal itself the water is pretty but there is potential for rip tide and it gets deep close to shore. I've been told there is decent snorkeling just by walking in but again you have to be aware of the tide risk. The broken shell beach is like nothing I've seen before.
All the natural beauty aside in the almost two weeks I've been in Costa Rica I've never been bothered by people asking me to rent/buy things so persistently. In 15 minutes I've been asked by half a dozen different people, one of which kept following me as I was walking away telling him no thank you, to rent canopies/chairs or buy drinks. The sound of the waves is being drowned out by annoying jet ski motors. It's more like a less congested area of Cancun than all the other areas of Costa Rica I've been to. The kids did enjoy it so it wasn't a total loss. Plenty of other areas to see so I...
Read moreBeautiful beach made of sea shells, but very difficult to get to and the level of tico aggression matched only by Tamarindo. After we survived our drive through the sand and over there hump in our little Hyundai we were accosted to pay for security to watch our car, umbrellas, food, etc. One guy just silently followed us for two minutes which was super creepy. We didn't end up staying long. Massage was offered for $20 and hour and if we were going to stay I would have definitely taken Jesse up on that offer. That was all the way to the exit of the Westin on the far side of the beach from where you come in by car. Would recommend a four wheel drive car or atv just for not getting stuck in the sand, but there were locals going back and forth in rusted out econo boxes not having any problems. I think the best way to experience this beach may be for the people staying at the Westin. They can just walk out the back door. No facilities (toilet or changing) that we could see. The guard at the Westin said there was a pay toilet down the beach but it was obscure enough that we didn't see it while we were looking. Ultimately that's...
Read moreThis place is so amazing I debated whether to write an honest review, which would attract more people to come here, or lie and say it was awful, and help conserve it! This wasn’t planned for me, I joined my relative already on vacation here at the W , such a beautiful location, built on a nature preserve, so pristine and well kept. The beach is super clean, but the sand is a little rough, very pebbly and lots of crushed seashells, hence the name playa conchal (shell beach). The water was super warm and amazing that I didn’t want to get out and eventually got sunburnt. The sun’s effect is strong here, make sure to prepare for that. If you wish to buy souvenirs or book excursions or massages, there are lots of vendors that would love your business. Don’t make my mistake and be cashless, I had to make three trips back for more cash, the souvenirs were amazing, and decently priced. If you are reading this, book now! There’s not even one negative thing I could think about this place. As a matter of fact, the Costa Rican hospitality is second to none, don’t miss out on the most friendly people on...
