This is the only disappointment in our stay in Split during a walk in the Marjan natural reserve. From the road, the beach bar seems attractive and there was some heavy rain the day before our visit. We decide to stop for a drink and arrived on the terrasse around 11am. As no one was asking what we wanted to have, I when inside, searching for the toilet and a young waitress and a young waiter were BOTH having their faces BURIED inside their mobile phone. They notice me only when I came out of the toilet! We exchanged hello’s, ordered and the table was wiped in front of us. We notice the debris on the terrasse and the filth of the outdoor facilities as we left. Bottle caps, cigarettes butts, straws, a book left out, plastic, and rubbish of all sorts were peppering the whole place. Over the terrasse banister some empty bottles were just waiting a bit of wind to end up in the sea. Well I would like to address the boss of that BENE beach bar (hoping that the real boss is NOT the two young waiters there) and invite him to crack the wip over those two negligent persons, unable to broom and clean the tables BEFORE GUEST ARRIVES, clear of all the rubbish left around, to make this bar a bit more welcoming. After bringing the drinks, they both went back in their phones leaving the mess dominate the beach bar. I’m sorry guys, but to my point of view, the day start by cleaning what the rain brought in, clean the tables, take care about the wet cushions left out during the night (should they spend the night out?) clear the bar and ONLY THEN start to look at your phone and realise you work in a natural reserve. A nice place left in...
Read moreThis is the only review you'll need. In short: bathroom, kid-friendly, bring your own food and drinks if you don't want to throw money in the water, 20€ per sunbed, a lot of shade!
Bus 12 from city center leaves at every half hour for 3€ per person. It is not a "beach" with sand, it's almost like an outdoor pool where you walk into the water with steps. The most shallow part is maybe 10 cm, so very kid-friendly for the most part.
When you arrive, go directly to the restaurant and pay a lady (who speaks poor English and is the mother of the owner?) 20$ PER sunbed. You will get a colorful wristband indicating that you've paid. Afterwards you find sunbeds, and if you have trouble finding any - ask the lady and she will shoo people away to give you a sunbed.
You can carry them into the shade, because there is a lot of shade in the area. If you don't want to pay for a sunbed, no problem, just prepare for a rocky place to lay down on.
There is a bathroom in the restaurant, but it is a very non-chalant service with oooooverpriced drinks and food with no taste so bring your own food!!!! A really nice place to stay at and to discover with your goggles instead of the beaches closer to the...
Read moreWe all grew up running to beach Bene from Spinut, or on our way to the Oceanographic Institute - so we all know how it looks decades ago. The main problem is that there is only one shower and if you don't have 2 kunas, you can't take it. It's ok if that money goes to repairing the beach (one or two trucks of sand [smaller rocks and sand] would do the job), but I don't see it. Yeah, and that small rollercoaster in the middle of the cove - where is it. Also, we all are missing the ladder on that concrete dock north of the cove. We all learned our water jumps there. But, all in all, I must say my kudos to the young waiters and waitresses - they were very kind and polite (especially that they charged me small coffee with milk with 10 kunas [and it was 11]) so automatically I gave him 5 more. Last but not least, the place for street workout (ladders, benches etc.) are still (!) broken. Will anyone do something about it? P. S. Once upon a time, wood park Marjan was all covered with rich Dalmatian black oak. Now, it's all in pines (pinus halepensis) and it have it's magic, but it's not oak. But that's whole another story. Very good place to hike...
