A must see on the island! View from the Fort is amazing!

For the Lokrum Island highly recommend getting on the 9 or 10 am ferry to avoid the crowd. There are ferries back to Dubrovnik every 30 mins. Ferry leaves right from the Dubrovnik Old Harbor to Lokrum.

Top must see is Monastery and Fort. Everything else is optional. Do allow for 2-3 hours on the island.

This route is the easiest - least steep option up to the Fort:

  1. Head first to the monastery (for the Game of Thrones - Throne). You can take as many photos without the crowd if you take the 9-10am ferry. 2) Head to Dead Sea to take a dip or skip to go past it to the gorgeous view of the open ocean! 3) Then head in the direction of the Botanical Garden (skip the garden - not much to see) and go toward Path of Paradise up to the Fort! Look backward as you head up for gorgeous views! 4) Explore the Fort! This is a must! Gorgeous views - note the best view is not in the fort but around it. 5) Optional to head down the steep rocky slop to the other side of the island to Lazret, Skalica, and the Cross. 6) Head back to the port - there should be a ferry every 30 mins. Note, ferry do leave a few...

I took this climb to Fort Royal as a challenge as it was one of the GoT filming locations I was ticking off my list (The paradise road up to the House of the Undying- if that means anything to you!). The good thing about arriving at this spot is that it is the highest point on Lokrum so has got extensive views of the gorgeous maritime back drop of the old town and port. Bad news is that the place is a wreck with crumbling stonework and barely any consideration for health & safety or toilets let alone any contextual explaination of what it actually is, and how it got to this state. You have got to admire the Croatians for a selling tickets to pile of rubble and 45 minute hike up a goat track! But the view is worth it, just...

(And after all that the house of the Undying is actually one of the Towers on...

The way up can be quite steep, but it is absolutely worth the effort. If you visit Lokrum, make sure you don’t miss this hidden gem. The view from the top is nothing short of breathtaking - panoramic scenery that stretches as far as the eye can see. Pictures don’t do it justice, and words can hardly capture the feeling of standing there, surrounded by such natural beauty. It’s one of those places you truly need to experience in person to understand its magic. Take your time at the top, soak in the atmosphere, and let the view leave its mark on you - it’s an unforgettable highlight of any...
