*My low review is based on the “Shaker” experience. I recommend buying the Classic experience, the cheapest, as there is no added value in the greater packages.
Before the tour, if you buy a classic (cost: 350cup), you receive a drink. If you buy the Shaker, mixing workshop “taller,” at the end you do not receive a drink before the tour. Not outline anywhere or informed of this when paying for an experience that costs more. From my oversold group, 20+, I did not received a drink beforehand. I asked for one and was told it did not came with my purchased package.
The actual tour is fine and worth the 350cup.
My mixing workshop consisted of the bartender stating what he was putting into the shaker and letting me shake it for the 30 seconds. The mix drink and experience was not worth the extra cash spent on this tour.
*The tasting class takes place within the same bar. From what I saw, people had there 3 different shots poured in place already above a table with description of the drinks on a mat. This is not a guided tasting experience, just additional drinks at the end.
**The other thing I did not think was appropriate is the bathroom lady used her hands to point at a tip table and verbally stated propinas. Tips are given after and based on the service, not beforehand. Toilet paper and soap is hard to come by in Cuba, would make sense to tip for that. They...
Read moreThis museo is a very good occasion for the employees to make easy money on tourists. Havana Club's Company should avoid it.
While buying a ticket at the entrance we received information that two things are included in the tour: one shot of rum and one cocktail. The funny thing is that at the end of the tour you indeed receive a shot of rum bur NO COCKTAIL unless you ask for it yourself. In this way the staff is saving many bottles of rum per day which are later on being sold in the black market. There were 20 people each tour, it means that they save around 1 bottle of 7 years Ton (27 dollars).
Havana Club, is this museum ypur business card.
The tour is not explaining almost anything and the guide was spending more time translating words in different languages than explaining processes.
The bartender: he is the leader of the scam. In order to prepare the cocktail he reused the unfinished rum from the previous tour participants.
In this way they can easily save and resell at list 20 bottles per day.
Ridiculous!
Attaching photo of the above mentioned cocktail for...
Read moreCosting only 7 CUC, this was a great detour on our trip and something everyone should see if you have even the mildest interest in liquor or Cuban history.
First of all, our tour guide was amazing. She had so much energy and spunk and kept every second of the tour interesting and entertaining. She took us through the basic process of making rum and the brief history behind rum in Cuba.
They have a neat little model of an old distillery where they actually make the rum, as well as a few replica fermentation and aging barrels.
At the end of the tour she talked about the different kinds of Havana club Rum and what each is used for, which incredibly useful, as I ended up buying 5 different bottles by the end of my trip. We got to try some of the 7-year aged rum; very tasty.
At the very end is the gift shop which has basically all of Havana Club's rum varieties, all priced reasonably. It was so interesting and fun, I would...
