San Lazaro Tower — Attraction in Cayo Hueso

Also known as Torreón de la Caleta (Cove) , this rounded tower was built in 1665 by the engineer Marcos Lucio. It was part of the old defensive system in Havana during the Colonial times. It was a lookout and also the link between La Chorrera and La Punta fortresses along the coast line. It has three floors inside with loopholes that let the soldiers defend it. It is located in Malecon and Marina and is embeded in the Antonio Maceo Park. It is National Monument. You can see it while strolling from Vedado to Old Havana...
