Baroque Bridge — Attraction in okres Žďár nad Sázavou

Nádherný čtyřicetimetrový barokní tříobloukový most ze žulových kvádrů přes Stržský potok byl postaven v první polovině 18. století a nahradil původní dřevěný most, který sloužil jako hlavní přístup ke klášteru. V roce 1761 ho nechal vyzdobit sochami osmi světců opat žďárského kláštera Bernard Hennet, nástupce opata Václava Vejmluvy. Výzdoba byla inspirována barokní výzdobou Karlova mostu v Praze. Sloup s postavou sv. Jana Nepomuckého stál již od roku 1701 jižně od mostu, na stejném místě jako dnes. Na jedné straně mostu jsou sochy sv. Benedikta, sv. Mikuláše, sv. Jana a sv. Cyrila, na druhé pak sv. Bernarda, sv. Vojtěcha, sv. Pavla a sv. Metoděje. Autor těchto soch není znám. U každé sochy světce je na vysokém podstavci komentář objasňující volbu jednotlivých postav. V letech 2008-2009 byly během kompletní rekonstrukce mostu nahrazeny originály soch kvalitními kopiemi.

The magnificent forty-meter Baroque three-arched bridge made of granite blocks over the Stržský stream was built in the first half of the 18th century and replaced the original wooden bridge, which served as the main access to the monastery. In 1761, the abbot of the Žďár monastery, Bernard Hennet, the successor to Abbot Václav Vejmluva, decorated it with statues of eight saints. The decoration was inspired by the Baroque decoration of Charles Bridge in Prague. Column with the figure of st. John of Nepomuk stood since 1701 south of the bridge, in the same place as today. On one side of the bridge there are statues of St. Benedict, St. Nicholas, St. John and St. Cyril, on the other St. Bernard, St. Vojtěch, St. Paul and St. Methodius. The author of these sculptures is unknown. For each statue of a saint, there is a commentary on the high pedestal explaining the choice of the individual figures. In 2008-2009, original sculptures were replaced by high-quality copies during the complete reconstruction...

A narrow bridge for cars, nice photoshoot point. This is one of the few things that a person can see in the city, close to other main attractions. The bridge is accessible for cars. Since it's a bit narrow, be mindful when you drive through it. I was surprised that most of the cars are send through the bridge anyway, it's one of the main roads...

Krasny most, ktery si i v klidu a z blizkeho odstupu prohlednete a nafotite, protoze pres most jezdi jen auta. Pro pesi vede chodnik paralelne s mostem, cca 10 m daleko. Tolik divokych kachen pohromade, ktere tu najdete, jsem snad jeste nevidela ... asi i ony vi, ze jsou na uzemi "Krakonose Vysociny", rodu Kinskych, kteri Zdarsko zvelebuji a citlive...
