Castle Breclav — Attraction in okres Břeclav

Původní slovanské osídlení Břeclavi dnes datujeme do 6. století. V lokalitě Pohansko vzniklo významné sídlo, kde byl v 9. století zbudován velmožský dvorec s kostelem a hospodářským zázemím. Zhruba o dvě století později hradiště zaniká a hlavním sídelním místem se stává prostor kolem nového přemyslovského pohraničního hradu vybudovaném knížetem Břetislavem I. Ten později spolu s městečkem získali Žerotínové, kteří hrad první polovině 16. století přestavěli na renesanční zámek. Dnešní podobu dostal na počátku 19. století, kdy Lichtenštejnové budovali Lednicko-valtický areál a přestavěli objekt v romantickém stylu na umělou zříceninu. V roce 1945 se stal zámek majetkem československého státu, v dnešní době je značně zchátralý objekt v havarijním stavu ve správě města, které řeší jeho rekonstrukci. Opravy spojené s celkovou rekonstrukcí jsou odhadovány na 200 milionů korun, takže budou zřejmě probíhat pozvolna a ve fázích. V roce 2014 byla zprovozněna vyhlídka z prostřední věže.

The original Slavic settlement of Břeclav dates back to the 6th century. In the locality of Pohansko, an important settlement was established, where a great manor with a church and farm facilities was built in the 9th century. Approximately two centuries later, the hillfort disappeared and the main settlement moved to the area around the new Přemyslid border castle built by Prince Břetislav I. The castle and the town were later acquired by the Žerotín family, who rebuilt the castle into a Renaissance chateau in the first half of the 16th century. The building got its present form at the beginning of the 19th century, when the Liechtensteins were building the Lednice-Valtice area and converted the object in a romantic style into an artificial ruin. In 1945, the castle became the property of the Czechoslovak state. Today, the dilapidated building is in a state of disrepair and is being reconstructed by the town. We visited the castle and climbed the tower. The outlook from the tower provided us with a view over large areas of the Czech Republic and Austria. The building needs renovation and massive funding.
