Science and Technology Centrum — Attraction in okres Ostrava-město

A very interesting place, truly suitable for everyone. I visited with my partner (we’re in our 20s), and we both had a great time. The exhibitions are engaging and interactive, and what’s really nice is that most of the attractions offer language options – Czech, English, and Polish – which is a big plus for international visitors.

Some parts of the exhibition seemed to be out of service, which was a slight letdown, but it didn’t ruin the overall experience.

I've been to a similar science and technology center in Warsaw, and honestly, the one in Ostrava left a better impression on me – it's more thoughtfully designed and felt more engaging.

Inside the center, the staff were very friendly – especially the lovely ladies at the gift shop. I even discovered a new drink I liked, called "Topic" 😊

With the ticket, we also had access to a small art gallery nearby. It was a very cozy and intimate space. The lady there spoke excellent English, was helpful, and the gallery offered some really nice souvenirs. Plus, free parking spots were available, which is always appreciated.

Unfortunately, it was the staff and maintenance that spoiled our family day in this otherwise wonderful and educational place. Substantial amounts of exhibition items were out of order - not just not available in set hours or days; which was also surprising. So far so good but after leaving the building the not so automatic door didn’t shut behind us and we didn’t notice. Well, until one lady from the staff ran after us and shouted at us ‘Shut the damn door, it’s bellow zero outside!’ And slammed the door. Was she right? Yes, of course. But her shouting at us like a cleaning lady in the elementary school is going to be the last and most profounds thing I and my little nephews remember, and the older one was a bit shattered all day since he was the one holding the door...

Near an old coal mine that’s now an entertainment center is a three-level science center. For myself and my six-year-old daughter to go on a Tuesday afternoon in August, it cost around 500 CZK. Here’s our experience.

1. Entrance: There are a few things to go outside the entrance and the lobby has games, a cafe, and lockers.

2. Exhibits: The first floor has special exhibits. When we went, they had a recycling exhibit up. The second floor has these pods that have interactive stations around things like metal, electricity, animals, the body, etc. The third floor has more exhibits around disabilities and cars. Most exhibits are in Czech, English, and Polish.
