Playa Ayampe — Attraction in Parroquia Salango

Wow! This used to be a nice place to visit, spend time on the beach, and enjoy a bustling hip little town. The town still has some charm, but don't go here for the beach - unless they do some serious work to remove the dangerous debris. Apparently, it's been there since February, and they've done nothing to clean it up - unlike some neighboring towns that faced a similar situation. The town feels half deserted now. I wish the Airbnb host would have been kind enough to give us a heads up before we booked/arrived. But we have to take a taxi to a neighboring hamlet, to enjoy the beach. Sad...

Town located about 30 minutes south from Puerto López. The entrance to the town is a small muddy street but the beauty of it is precisely its isolation and surfing ambience. There are several small water front hotels and prices range depending on how close they're to the ocean. Ayampe es el lugar costero, más hermoso que he visitado en la playa, aquí se preserva la naturaleza, se respira vida, armonía, serenidad...en este rincón manabita, si se puede descansar con total seguridad, porque no hay bares ni discotecas que perturben el ambiente con su bullicio; más bien todo lo contrario, los negocios de hospitalidad cierran sus puertas a las 10 de la noche, sus calles de tierra y con escaso alumbrado público, son transitadas mayormente a pie. Muchos de los residentes son extranjeros que ofrecen al turista alojamiento rústico pero confortable, en medio de una exuberante flora y fauna, propias de la región costera de Ecuador. Estuvimos visitando Ayampe en el mes de agosto, en esta época el clima es muy fresco, con fuertes vientos y días nublados, no obstante, disfrutamos de largas caminatas en una playa limpia y poco concurrida... En Ayampe se vive un aire muy Zen, con varios centros de meditación, comida vegana y mucha naturaleza, esta playa también es muy visitada...
