Visited 31 October 2022. QV44 is the tomb of Prince Khaemwaset, the eldest son of Ramses III. Like many of Ramses III sons, they were named after the sons of Ramses II. Prince Khaemwaset held the titles ‘Eldest son of the King’, ‘Sem-priest of Ptah' and served at Memphis. Discovered in 1903 by Schiaparelli, it is probably the best preserved tomb after that of Nefertari in the valley. Unfortunately the tomb became a mass burial chamber in antiquity and upon discovery many broken and empty sarcophagi were found. Only the broken cover of the sarcophagus of the prince was found. This is now housed at the Museo Egizio di Torino. Interestingly the cover does bear an inscription dating to the reign of Ramses IV.

Tomb of Khaemwaset (QV44): The tomb’s owner, Prince Khaemwaset, was also a son of Ramesses III. Like other royal tombs of princes, this tomb features numerous carved murals depicting the prince accompanying his father as they meet various gods of the heavens.

One of the tomb in excellent condition) I was surprised to see such bright colours! It is small, nice, well-kept, and good for tourists who starts getting acquainted with the tomb of Egyptian pharaohs. There are a lot of people here even during a low season.

A well preserved tomb of a prince. The art is beautiful and included in the QV ticket. Beware of the security right outside the tomb, he might offer to show you the tomb QV43 through a small hole in the door. You can take him up for the offer, but be prepared to pay...
