Totally worth it, if you like authentic, "non-official" and more "open" attractions. As far as I have seen it, the whole area/museum consists of 3 parts/buildings: military history, natural history and naval/fishing. If you like big structured museums with clean and polished exhibition pieces, this is no place for you (e.g. military part)! Expect an astouning "private" collection of authentic items which are partly on the "dark tourism" side, at least the military part.

The guide is an older and very friendly man, but does not understand english or german. Expect estonian or russian labels on the exhibition pieces. I assume the older man has collected a majority of the parts by himself - or they are even part of his and his family's history.

Duration: 1-1,5h if you are intressted and have an eye for details. 30-40mins if you just want to touch each room/building once. Price: 5€ per person More with the guide? I am not sure. No...

You take an old man who collected all the rubbish from the war that he could find in his lifetime, let him store it in an old house and let the stuff gather more corrosion than you could ever imagine. Then you try to organize it just a little bit and call it a museum. Very charming and cosy place in a very old-fashioned way and if you're into military equipment and know the details there's for sure a lot to see. Still it would need to be a lot more interesting and attractively presented. Maybe have some stuff that was actually renovated so you can get an impression of what it once was supposed to look like? Biggest drawback is that there is information in Estonian and Russian only and no one from the staff speaks even a...

The Sõrve Military Museum is located at the tip of Sõrve Peninsula, in the former Sääre border guard station. The museum was established for preserving and introducing local heritage, but besides its military exhibition it also has extensive nature and regional history sections. Wars have left a lot of items in the forests of Sõrve and many of these have been brought to the Museum and the Museum yard. There is also a lot to see in the forests, with several old coastal batteries in the area.

What a gem! Hidden in the end of the island, this war museum is truly amazing. It is a shame is not as popular as it deserves to be. Prices vary, £3-£8 per person. Since we were the only ones visiting, the old man who works there showed us around and told us really interesting stuff about the weapons, machinery etc. It was a pleasure to listen, since he speaks truly through his heart with such a passion. There is also a natural history musem just right next to the war one. Definitely visit too! Would go back if visiting the island.
