Vuokatti Sport is a sports educational centre which also offers accommodation and activities for tourists. Our family stayed here during Easter holidays and enjoyed it. We stayed in the new chalet section where the apartments were nice and beautifully decorated. The apartment was just right for our family of three - but I guess even two more people would somehow have stayed there. There was a small kitchen corner with all the kitchen utensils and a frigde, a sauna and two sleeping areas which were separated from the larger room. The smaller 'bedroom' was actually more like a cupboard as it did not have a window but our kid was happy in her bunk-bed there. There was a drying cupboard which was handy for getting your skiing gear dry after a day on the tracks. ||The hotel has an older part which seems more basic. There was a rather long walk from the hotel reception and restaurant to our section of the hotel so if you have problems walking take note. ||The hotel restaurant is only open at certain times, and has a reasonably priced buffet which we took many times. There are not many other services nearby but another hotel and its restaurant (Sokos Hotel) is within walking distance if you want a change. ||Most people drive here but we came by aeroplane to Kajaani and then took a connecting bus service to Vuokatti Sport - it dropped us right at the reception of the hotel. There is also a free bus service in Vuokatti area which runs every two hours - so basically you can get around without a car. Even the downhill slopes are a short walk through the forest so you can easily walk or ski there too. ||The scenery is beautiful and the tracks are excellent! Even in the summer there are great walks everywhere. ||The ski tracks, a swimming hall and nice saunas are available at the Sport hotel so you have most of what you need here. Most of the people who stayed here over Easter were families but I guess at other times there are more people on courses. A really nice thing was that the hotel offered various kinds of guided sports activities for people who stayed there - and it was complimentary!! These included lessons in skiing techniques and downhill skiing for kids (which was excellent!), and some group gymnastics. On a normal week they would have even more activities here, I'm sure. They also have a special playhouse for kids, and you can borrow gliders and have great fun in some of the hills there. What they don't offer is partying for people who are looking for company and drinks.. this place is more oriented for families. ||The price was a bit on the high side but when you count all the sports program - which included even a husky safari for the whole family - then it felt right. ||We'd definitely come here again - and we also enjoyed this place for its peaceful nature and beautiful scenery and...
Read moreThis is review of Sport Hotel restaurant.||We've been visiting Sport hotel for lunch and dinner years and years. We've also stayed here many times, either for holiday or e.g. tennis courses since eighties. ||I cant understand what has happened to famous Vuokatti lunch. Year ago all was well, with good quality and interesting variety of food incl. lot of local delicates like rieska and muikut. ||We visited Sport hotel for lunch last week, and now it was nothing alike. Food was low quality, low imagination and borderline tasteless. Salads were very basic. Pasta was in one big chunk. Meat sauce with rice was replicate of school food as I remember it. ||Unfortunate to say but this was simply bad experience. There are lot of cool places to eat in and around Vuokatti and Sotkamo, that still focus on quality and local food. Sport Hotel is nice place with unique history. But recommend to have your...
