Icebreaker trip was truly disappointing. We sail out into the sea, only to be informed that we were unable to do the ice floating activity due to strong winds and thin ice. Understood that safety was of concern here, but given the condition of the sea (which I could even see the thin ice with my naked eyes), why would you even allow reservations during this period and still eventually sail out? The after sales service was also subpar as we were only given a hot drink as compensation and a similar tour deeper into the sea, which really wasn’t of much value since we had been in the sea for some time. That aside, when we landed, we had to do a tour around Sampo. Choice was not exactly given as some of us who did not wish to join the tour ended up having to wait for 30 minutes in the bus for the rest to complete their tour. In this situation, shouldn’t the customers be given a choice on whether they want to do the Sampo tour instead of being stuck with no alternative to continue with their own travel plans? A more appropriate way to do PR recovery would be eg to offer us a complementary 360 experience where customers get a choice to do that or part ways thereafter / some form of refund. Honestly not worth the 400 euros and more...
Read moreA once in a lifetime experience aboard the Sampo Icebreaker in Finland! The views were incredible! Watching the massive ship churn through thick ice was mesmerizing! Our plan was a tour of the ship, lunch, and then the famous polar plunge.
The ship tour was fascinating. It was so neat to see all the rooms and learn about the ship’s operations up close. Lunch was a surprising delight! They offered a delicious buffet with plenty of options. Normally, I dread buffets, so it was a great surprise to enjoy. The Icebreaker bar was a fun stop. We were given a complimentary shot served in a glass made out of ice which made for memorable toast!
Then came the polar plunge! They suit you up in these giant survival suits that basically turn you into a human buoy. Watching everyone floating around in the icy water was hilarious and unforgettable! If you don't want to suit up, you can also walk on the frozen glacier, which was equally amazing. My visit was a perfect mix of adventure, comedy, and gorgeous scenery I will...
Read moreVery bad experience with Icebreaker Sampo. We had a paid reservation for a cruise on April 1st. And we organized our trip in Lapland to be in Kemi that day, dedicating a day for the cruise and the Kemi ice castle, which made us incur additional costs (hotel, extra day car rental...). But the company decided to cancel the cruise, claiming that it did not have enough clients for that day and proposed us to bring the cruise up one day, which was impossible for us due to the travel schedule. Although we got our money back (of course!) we were terribly upset, we incurred unnecessary expenses and, above all, we lost a day of vacation: both the Kemi ice castle and SnowExperience365 are a complete joke... they are not worth it absolutely nothing. In short, we strongly discourage booking this cruise in advance; this is intended for tour operator or group reservations. A single couple is left at the mercy of a cancellation policy that may be legal in Finland but is certainly...
