Собор построен во второй половине 19 века. Во время 2-й мировой войны сильно пострадал в результате бомбардировок, после войны реставрирован. В ходе реставрации проект был немного изменён (собор восстановлен в более "строгом" стиле с минимумом наружных украшений и тп.) Славящиеся острым языком местные жители прозвали собор "жирафом" полагая что высокая колокольня делает его похожим на это...
