We had a fantastic visit to the Lavender Museum on July 7th! After driving around the lavender and lavindin fields of Provence, we wanted to learn more about how it is distilled. We attended a distillation in English and had a very informative session. Our presenter was articulate and kind, and answered all of our questions. Unfortunately although we bought tickets in advance and arrived early it took a really long time to receive our printed tickets (my one complaint!) so we missed the beginning of the explanation. He was kind enough after the explanation was done to catch us up on what we missed, which I really appreciated.
The museum of distillation itself is small but very interesting - I liked learning about the history of distillation and the differences between lavender and lavindin types.
The gift shop was also a fantastic experience. Visitors to the museum get 20% off and all the products here are certified so you know you are not getting a rip off. We ended up speaking to Johanna, who was so lovely and informative and helped us find everything we wanted.
After we were done we relaxed with some lavender and rosemary ice cream in the garden which was a delicious and peaceful experience. I would really recommend this to anyone visiting Provence and I commend this museum for having such helpful...
Read moreLavender will always have a special meaning for us, since our wedding wad full of this beautiful flower. But since the fields were all harvested, we decided to go to the museum. How much is there to know about lavender we asked ourselves, apparently more than enough to make this lovely little museum.
The price was fair and everything was well told and shown beautifully with a vairity of text, pictures, movies and of cause different things related to lavender and the way it is used and processed throughout history.
The staff were all very sweet and helpfull and you could tell they all really enjoyed working there. To our surprise most staff spoke both french and english, but many spoke different languages as well.
The little boutiqe at the end is also very cute and informative and we loved that you could try every item sold in the shop without feeling pressured to buy. Of cause we did end up buying a lot, but we had the space to make out our own decisions while the staff were still very friendly and helpfull.
Overall i think this museum is perfect for what it is. Beautiful, modest and very welcoming, just like the flower itself. Deffinitely worth the visit if ever...
Read moreSmaller than I expected, no lavender field nearby what I was surprised about, the shop is quite expensive. Update: I received a reply from the manager of this place, mentioning a one hectar big lavender field around the museum. I'm really sorry, but I didn't get to see it, and when I asked the staff about lavender fields nearby, they recommended to go about 60 km further away. There is some lavender in the backyard but I don't think it was one hectare. And yes, the shop is expensive, but I did not mean in a negative or offensive way that the shop is expensive, that's just the pure truth. Even though I found it expensive, bought some products - hand creme, tea, eau de toilette, body scrub, and essential oil - and I am happy I did. Everything I bought there I love. The taste, the smell, the quality, the packaging, everything. But still expensive. There is no cafe or buffet in the museum. Luckily the other side of the road there is a cafe or bakery where you can get some refreshments...
