We stayed here for two nights early July in our Camper. Upon arrival we found the reception to be very welcoming and they speak English when our French failed us. They gave us maps to explain routes to the town, recommended a variety of restaurants and arranged a taxi at very short notice when we decided to be more sophisticated one evening. The rest of the time we cycled everywhere using the maps provided. This campsite is well located for Arcachon on bicycles. The walk is about 1.2 miles. |We were sited in a pine forest, relatively flat and the ground is corse sand. Electric and water is available at every pitch. Our closest shower block was out of order during our stay so used another one and there are a few blocks. As per most French toilets there was no toilet seat and the toilet paper is located outside the toilet. The blocks are kept very clean. ||Pools are located near reception so if you will be using these facilities regularly I would request a pitch close to the pool as the site is quite vast... there are quite a few pools and caters for all age groups including slide etc... not many sun loungers or seats around the pool. The bar/restaurant/shop is very good, we really enjoyed the freshly prepared calzone and beers... ||...and as we found out, there is a security guard at the entrance overnight which made us feel safe and almost justified the price....|Also, if like us you use satellite, our pitch was covered by pine trees and we were unable to get any coverage. As it was only for two nights we were not fussed, but one to note for future as there are pitches with sunlight. For sunbathers, this might be one to note as our pitch received no direct sunlight. Great for those that like the shade;)|For information, we paid just under €100 for two nights. The location sells this place for me, which is a short cycle ride to Arcachon, with beach, restaurant, markets. |The dune is also accessible by bicycle but took us a bit longer to get there... ||Thank you Camping Club...
Read moreArcachon was the second Huttopia site we visited and there are lots of positive things about this place. We stayed in one of the Trappeur tents with a bathroom. The tent was very well built and comfortable, at a quite high standard for a glamping site. We were even impressed with the small bathroom which was well laid out in its small space, and of much better quality than the first site we stayed at in Paris.
The cafe has a wonderful terrace overlooking the forest. It's a great spot for afternoon drinks. We were lucky that during our stay around mid-August there were a couple evenings with live bands playing, great atmosphere! But please be aware of the pizzas, they come with emmenthal cheese instead of mozzarella, this was not a welcome surprise!
Sadly, having cars driving through the site was a massive negative point for us. It didn't feel particularly dangerous but it damaged the natural atmosphere of wooden structures and big trees. There are about 7 parking areas in the site plus some accommodations have their own parking space. It'd be so much nicer if all cars were parked in one location, with trolleys provided for people to take their stuff to their accommodation. It would enhance the natural atmosphere hugely!
Another let down was having families with very young kids near us, which meant we got woken up early morning by screaming toddlers! Being parents ourselves, we totally understand screaming toddlers are almost inevitable. I wonder if places like Huttopia would do better if they were to place families with younger kids in the same area, and those with older kids in another. I'd say it's worth trying!
Whilst we wouldn't return to Huttopia Arcachon, we'd recommend it to families with younger kids, primary school age, because of the facilities and activities (most free). I guess the type of venue is more suited for younger children than ours, unless you come here with other families, that would also be a...
