Animal Park of the Pyrenees — Attraction in Argelès-Gazost

Let’s start with the bad… it was immediately clear the largest of the bears was very unhappy. He paced back and forth continuously for the visit. This is an obvious sign of stress, boredom, or unnatural confinement. The environment they’re in is actually tiny for 3 bears, it clearly does not meet their physical or mental needs. The bears looked bored to death. This was really sad to see and made me feel guilty purchasing a ticket to support this. The red panda looked equally as bored. Pacing back and forth across the fence of his cage. These were the standouts but I am sure a lot of the other animals were feeling the same way. I wouldn’t say it’s a park but more of a zoo… I think if people are to have animal parks they need to be huge with maximum space for each animal for it to be humane. To be fair, and the reason for 2 stars, it is a pretty park and a nice walk around, I can see they have made an effort with the enclosures that they do have. But for most animals it clearly isn’t enough space. I’m reading reviews about the bears dating back years ago, so they have already been pacing for years and years. I don’t know how the staff can watch that and feel ok with themselves… the cafes and the gift shop were nice and the ranges of foods and fresh smoothies were good. I hate to leave a bad review but I can’t watch unhappy animals. The first time I thought it was just because they were hungry, but I went back a second time with my husband a few days later and they were pacing in the same spots in the exact same manor. Do better, please!!!! Maybe change their habitats to keep them mentally stimulated. Or buy more land, or get rid of the animals that are depressed and send them somewhere they will have the habitats...

Great zoo for kids and adults alike! The visit is divided into a longer path (with quite a high slope, so not recommended to people with limited mobility and very young kids-unless you go with strollers, total duration around 2 hours) and a shorter path (on a less high slope, so quite accessible to everybody, and it takes about 1.5 hours). Restaurants and toilets are both available at the entrance and inside the zoo (midway). You can feed the marmots and birds, which were really awesome. You can rent strollers at the entrance. Accès facile, grand parking. Nous sommes rentrés sans attente puisque nous avions prit les billets via le site, sinon longue file d'attente à 10h15! On en prend plein les yeux dès le début. Grande variété d'animaux avec le nom de chaque espèce. Parc propre, les animaux ont l'air bien. Leur zone sont bien aménagées. On a eu de la chance de tous les voir. L'idéal est d'y aller en début de journée. Adapté aux enfants mais pas avant 3 ans je pense. Il faut marcher pas mal et sur certaines portions c'est pentu! Nous y sommes restés 5h30, en prenant le temps, et en se restaurant sur place. Restauration rapide et plutôt chère, et il faut être très patient. L'idéal est d'emmener un pique-nique surtout avec des enfants...On a eu de la chance aussi de trouver une table libre face à la cage des Siamangs! À côté de l'aire de repas, il y a des petites chèvres et hamsters où les enfants peuvent les caresser et leur donner du granulé. Granulés (la valeur d'une mini poignée fermée dans des boules en plastique) biensur que vous achèterez 2€ à un distributeur! Qui pour nous n'a pas fonctionné car les boules sont trop entassées, donc 2€ perdu! Et surtout les chèvres n'avaient absolument plus faim car des granulés traînaient sur le sol et n'en voulait plus!!! Et ces boules nous en avons retrouvé qui jonchaient le sol de certains enclos! Donc concept à revoir. Sur la zone des wallabies nous avons eu la chance d'arriver quand le soigneur leur a distribué leur nourriture, et d'avoir des explications de sa part. Très sympa, nous pouvions aussi lui poser des questions, en étant assis dans une tribune à l'ombre. Ils ont des cabanes où vous pouvez y passer une nuit ou être de l'autre côté du décor avec un soigneur. Nous y retournerons quand notre enfant sera plus grand pour tester... Parc fantastique, je recommande...
