Spent two weeks at Club Farret and have to say it's probably the best campsite we have visited in France (4th visit). We (two adults, two kids) had a great holiday and would highly recommend this campsite. For the most part we couldn't fault it and would have given 5 stars only that the night time entertainment and Tao Pool were somewhat disappointing and Vias Plage itself is a bit small, just one long street. ||The positives and there are many. The campsite itself is immaculate. The groundskeepers deserve great credit for this. The security in and around the campsite were top notch and made us feel very safe. The kids club was very good and Katie in particular was brilliant with the kids, multilingual and very friendly. My daughter loved her. ||We stayed in a eurocamp premium static van and it was very tidy and clean. We have found that the external company vans tend to be in far away locations on the site and it was the same here only that the site is not that big so it wasn't a major inconvenience. The eurocamp reps were very nice and helpful. A top tip here is that people leave Pool rings and footballs, beach equipment in the eurocamp reception before the go so don't buy anything in the shop without having a look here first.||We ate in the La Palmarie restaurant twice and the food was excellent. The duck and cod were delicious and the kids loved the pizzas. There was a less formal restaurant too where we had burgers and the likes a couple of times. A tip, the pizzas are enormous, way to big for one person. Fantastic to share. We had breakfast one morning which was nice for a change but expensive for what you get. ||There is a shop on site which has all that you could need for maybe a week but we had a car and went out to the intermarche and Carrefour which had a great choice for more value. A lot of people we met had no car and you certainly can come here without a car and get by but in my opinion the site and local strip are too small for no car, particularly if you are staying for two weeks. The bakery is really good and I just loved the main Baker, a real character and so helpful with our poor French. ||The beach is excellent, the campsite is literally on the beach and the water is shallow and safe for kids. The C57 pool is more relaxed in terms of rules and swimming rings, footballs and playing games. ||Tao pool was supposedly more of a relaxing pool but unfortunately this is where the site let itself down somewhat. Tao pool is set in a T shape and the horizontal part is all 1.2m deep. The vertical part slopes back towards the entry to a couple of inches. Where this pool does not work in my view is the swim up bar. The bar is to the right of the vertical part of the pool located in the shallower end. Personally, I wouldn't put a bar in the pool like this. Some parents were slobbering all day at the bar and their kids were bored senseless stuck in the shallow end with nothing to do because the lifeguard, one in particular, a blonde gentleman, was going around blowing his whistle if a child even looked like they might start playing a game. So it's an issue where you have alcohol and kids, these parents should not be allowed to bar hog all day. Don't get me wrong, have your drink or two for an hour but not all day and visibly drunk. For most of the first week we were there, three fellas were playing some sort of dice game drinking wine all day and doing forfeit shots of vodka. Also on the two weekends we were there, this area was overrun by groups of young adults who were camping in tents and there for the drinking session. Its just not a good image for a family campsite in my opinion. ||My only other issue I had was around the night time entertainment which was either very very good or very bad. They put on a fire show, laser show and a morpheus dream academy performance which were all fantastic but equally terrible at the other end of the scale were the karaoke, bingo nights and one night a horrendous 5 piece rock band. Also odd was, even though it was very good, the Morpheus show was on twice, six days apart, while we were there.||To finish on a high, we had a super time at club farret and would not put anyone off going and would be more than happy to go back but armed with the right knowledge, we would stay away from the TAO pool altogether...
Read moreWe have been to le pin parasol which we loved le grand pins twice which we loved and thought we would travel further down to this site which we loved and probably is our favourite so far. We were towing our caravan and the site is easy to find. It was strange driving through a pedestrian area to get to the site however we got there. On arrival the receptionist was very smiley and informative and gave us a map to the pitch. We were on pitch 281 in the main site and I have never been to a site which is as tight as this. We have a 8ft wide single axel caravan and I barely was able to drive it around thank god for the motor mover. We were told that we should be able to park the van and car on the pitch but there was no way however the reception and security we’re able to find me a parking spot which was very helpful as this meant I could have the van and awning up. If your bringing a large van ask for the largest spots they do vary we were on a smaller on but looking around there were really good sized pitches. We were right near the beach which was great. ||The site is split by a road and actually the site isn’t that big which suits us. We were in the part where the entertainment was club 57 pool. There are pros and cons to this site and the others we visited. For the kids the slides were not as good however for us the adults the pools I found personally better especially the Tao pool which I personally loved where the slides are. The swim up bar is great cash only and never felt busy. I read reviews about sunbeds and queues however we went bang in middle of August and I never had a problem with sunbeds. I would get to the pool at around 0950 as they open at 10 and was always able to get 4 sunbeds. The lifeguards will go around for anyone that reserves them and remove the towels which I personally think is fair as people would Leave towels and then not come back for hours. As long as your there in the vicinity your fine. ||Personally we were never stopped from eating at the poolside not sure if we were allowed or not but all we made was a baguette and a few crisps anyway. ||The onsite shop is well stocked and the butcher although expensive is good and the bread is brilliant every morning. The little strip has loads of tourist shops and restaurants we went to the tex mex and a fish restaurant opposite and the food we had was good. It was nice walking around.||The pools were not cold as I read they were refreshing as it was mid 30s every day we were there. The entertainment was okay seen better but they worked hard and I like that it’s table service for drinks. ||We ate in the restaurant and had a really lovely meant. Yes it’s a little expensive but we enjoyed the food. ||We went to Montpellier which is a lovely city good to do on a cloudy day nice little squares around to see. We also went kayaking and paddle boarding both in the sea at the site and the lakes around. If you’re into paddle boarding take them. It’s worth it.||One thing I struggled with was water for the aqua roll. Basically there isn’t an outside tap I could find and I appeared to be the only person on the site with one. I had to fill it up where we cleaned dishes we don’t drink out of the van but everyone was doing it so I copied. My advice is leave the aqua roll at home and I would buy a smaller carry container. The site as always clean and tidy and the wash rooms were fine been to better but I don’t really care I’m there to wash and shave but they were clean. ||Overall the family really enjoyed the site pitches need to be a bit better once pitched I didn’t care but getting into the pitch was stressful. We had a cracking 2 weeks and we will certainly return....
Read moreWe spent ten nights in a premium mobile home in the California area.
The positives:
the campsite is beautifully maintained the proximity to a beautiful beach, clean, calm water, safe check in and out was quick and friendly and reception team were always very nice there is a well stocked supermarket (yes it’s expensive but show me a campsite shop that isn’t) we had a maintenance issue in our mobile home which was resolved relatively quickly the 2 bed mobile home we had adequate space for us (family of 4)
The not so positives:
we paid considerable money for our stay in a premium mobile home / area but we felt it was really no different or better than standard options we have had in the past. The mobile home, although spacious, really was quite tired looking - in particular the bathrooms - and the beds and pillows were not comfortable at all. the noise from the nearby strip / bars is AWFUL at night. Perhaps it’s not so bad in some areas of the campsite but in the California area where we stayed it was really intolerable and most nights we could hear the music from the nearby clubs and bars until 3am. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday and comfortable sleep this is NOT the place for you. the service is the bars and restaurant beside the club 57 pool was dreadful. The number of unhappy and complaining customers was very evident and really shameful given that this is supposed to be a 5 star campsite. the night entertainment was really quite poor, despite the best efforts of an animation team who are clearly enthusiastic about their work and I am sure very lovely people. We have been to much smaller, inexpensive campsites where the entertainment was far superior and clearly invested in. It seems the owners here are looking to save in this regard. the entertainment takes place around the pool area. This is a large campsite with a large number of people and the pool area is not huge. Therefore it felt very crowded and uncomfortable in the evening. Also, there is a significant safety issue with glasses being toppled over and smashed around the pool during the evenings. Unfortunately we saw a couple of swimmers having glass splinters removed from their feet by the lifeguards during our time there. there are nowhere near enough sun loungers around both pool areas but in particular the Tao pool. A couple of mornings we started to queue 30 minutes before the pool opened and we STILL did not manage to get sun loungers in a shade area - there are so few. This does not make for a pleasant or relaxing experience. We saw many families with small children had to sit on the stone steps around the pool area - very uncomfortable. We ended up ditching the pools and spending most of the time on the beach.
All in all, we would not return to this campsite. I feel quite cheated when I think of the money we spent on it and would strongly encourage everyone to do some serious research (something I regrettably did not do...
