À voir si vous vous baladez du côté des Saintes. Mais dépêchez-vous de prendre un petit bus à la descente du ferry car la montée avec des enfant de moins de 8ans peut être un challenge pour la famille ( ma dernière de 4 ans à fini la montée sur mes épaules c'est à dire 3/4 de la montée :))!) La visite malgré le. Covid est bien pensée vous traversez une foule de pièces avec des objets de l'époque, les histoires de guerre de ce monument qui tire sa notoriété de notre cher Napoléon. Mais ce que j'ai apprécié c'est cette vue magnifique (prévoyez des panoramas de la baie des Saintes inoubliables !!), profitez des canons exposés pour imaginer les batailles d'antan et arrêtez vous près de la végétation pour y comtempler "zigwane-la" qui se repose parfois à l'ombre sur des branches ou à même la pierre pour un bain de soleil. Le retour vers les plages, pour les plus courageux qui n'ont que leur jambe pour moyen de locomotion, donne lieu à une bonne heure de marche et pour ceux qui comme moi auront juste envie de se baigner sans forcer, une petite plage entre les restaurants à même le sable et les petites embarcations des pêcheurs en pleine ville est dépaysant!! Préparez la Go pro, le masque et les palmés car vous pourrez voir des bancs de poissons, des gros blancs de plus de 1m qui ont l'habitude de nager à 3m du bords entre les bateaux et baigneurs. Pour les plus aguerris (comme moi), prévoyez votre flotteur qui indique votre position car vous pourrez croiser jets packs, surfeur et bateaux. Éloignez vous du bords et faites vous plaisir avec de jolies apnées qui vous donneront l'occasion de nager avec pour les plus chanceux une tortue et pour les autres avec des bancs de poissons tous plus colorés les uns que les autres ! Pour le retour arrêtez vous pour déguster une glace italienne celle avant la place et pas celle de la place (arnaque !!) vous pouvez pas vous tromper les bacs nombreux dans la petite boutique donne envie et elles sont vraiment bonnes. Quand au voyage du retour venez un peu à l'avance si vous voulez choisir votre place !! Petite information très importante : vérifiez bien vos tickets au départ et regardez bien la date de retour pour éviter des négociations pour votre retour. La caissière s'était trompé sur la date de retour et cela a donné lieu à du marchandage à "l'antillaise"! Enfin n'oubliez pas votre crème car comme Marie Galante il fait très très chaud et le ciel tombera sur votre tête !

The place is only open during the morning (closes 12:30) They have a lot of small and different exhibitions detailing different things about the islands. Sadly you won't benefit a lot from the exhibitions if you don't understand French as almost everything is written in French and the tours were also in French. If you do understand French it is very interesting though. The view from their botanical garden is amazing (the best of the islands I've seen so far). The garden itself is disappointing as it isn't maintained and not a lot of information is available about the species of plants. If you like hiking then you will love the walk up the mountain on which the fort rests upon, if you don't shuttles are arranged at hotels and you can rent different smaller vehicles in the small town.

This place is a MUST SEE for anyone visiting Les Saintes! The grounds and gardens alone are worth going for. Magnificent lookouts to see the island from atop this historical fort. We toured on our own, as there were only French speaking guides that day. Stellar succulents and cacti in the gardens, along with pretty man-made rock formations. Be on the lookout for goats and iguanas. We didn't see any iguanas there that day, but did see 2 large ones elsewhere on the island that day. Beautiful breezes up there due to the elevation.

In general it's a nice place with good views. You pay around 7€ per person for the entrance. However, if you plan to go up Chameau, which I highly highly recommend then my suggestion is to skip the Fort if you don't speak French. There is not much to see and everything is in French. There might be a headline translated to English but that's more or less it. The woman at the counter might tell you there are translations but those are so very few that you can forget about it.

The pictures are very deceptive. This thing is a lot larger in real life! Amazing views and so many cool areas to explore. This was byfar my favorite attraction on Guadeloupe. Worth every Euro. You can also buy the local Tourment d'Amour for cheaper than in town. I don't know why it closes so early though. If you're only here on a cruise stop or day trip, visit the fort first as it closes at noon.

Some have noted that it's an arduous walk up to the fort--not if you're in decent health. The walk itself is fine, but it's the heat that can really take a toll. Excellent panoramic views are to be had here, as many have noted. The ground themselves aren't too much to see. Check out the relics and artwork inside. Look for the iguanas in the surrounding trees!

Description
Fort Napoléon is a fortification, located on Terre-de-Haut Island, in the Îles des Saintes, Guadeloupe. Property of the Departmental Council of Guadeloupe, it has been classified as a historical monument since the December 15, 1997. Fort Napoléon was built on the morne called Mire, it was originally named Fort Louis.
